I was asked to review The Great Escape Game in Sheffield, it’s a new craze that is sweeping the country and it is Sheffield’s biggest real life escape room.

You and your teammates are locked in a room with only 45 minutes to escape. Between you, you have to search for clues, solve puzzles, testing your logic and your teamwork to crack the code that will release you from the locked room.

It’s like TV shows such as The Cube and Crystal Maze but without the physical demands.

The Great Escape has four different rooms which all have different themes and puzzles meaning you can try each room without the experience getting repetitive. You choose which room you play at the time of booking and each room is rated with a star rating, which defines how difficult it is.

There were three of us in our group, undoubtedly the more people that take part the easier it is, in each room you can have teams of 2-7 people (depending on which room you are in). The rooms are aimed at age 12 upwards.

When we arrived at The Great Escape we were warmly greeted. The staff were really friendly and chatty and made us feel very welcome. We were talked through the basics of the game, as none of us knew what to expect.

We were in the Homicide room and I do not want to give too much away with details of the actual room, well you don’t want me to spoil it for you, do you? We were blindfolded and led into the room, we were given details of the story, which set the scene of the murders. When I took off my blindfold in had no idea what to expect. We had six different puzzles to crack, using our awareness, common sense and problem solving, racing against the clock. The time absolutely flew by… it was fantastic!

It was a great experience, none of us had ever done anything like this before but I think I am hooked and cannot wait to go back and try the other rooms. I totally recommend this experience, it is ideal for a group of friends, family or even a work teambuilding task.

So which room are you going to choose, Through the Wormhole, the Mad Scientist Escape Room, Homicide or Alcatraz and will you crack the codes to escape?

Excellent and great fun!
