The Air Storm FireTek Rocket is a glowing, bungee style rocket that can fly up to 75 metres. It’s a cool toy that delights both kids and grown up kids, and is also a great spectator sport too, get a few on the go and you’ve created your own fire-less firework display.

I didn’t really know how well this would work when we got it, the packaging straight away sold my 9 year old lad, the words fire and rocket in neon orange is always going to appeal to a boy and secretly I was thinking to myself that it did look pretty cool. But I thought 75 metres? Really? But it does!

So the first thing we learnt was not to play with it in the house, or if you do be super careful. It can pack a punch at close range I can tell you.

You really need a large outdoor area to play with, as it says on the box it can fly up to 75 metres, our back garden is nowhere near that and because the rocket is quite light it can wander off course and into a neighbouring garden on its return path and it would be sad to lose it because it is lot of fun.

You get two in the box, although just the one launcher, this is good thing because they can break if you do end up launching it near trees, tape or glue can fix it fairly well but it’s always good to keep a reserve.

Plus, if you’re like us at the park, with local kids wanting a play – with umpteen kids having a go, it gets a LOT of use – we could have sold tickets! We learnt there though that kids of all ages a) love it and b) are actually able to launch the launcher. I did wonder if it would be harder for smaller kids, the official age is 8 and over, but a six year girl old under supervision was fine with it. Didn’t get it as far as the 9 year olds and teens did, but still she was overjoyed with it.

There’s no assembly required, just rip it out the box and you’re off. The screaming wasn’t particularly loud which I was happy with – as I’m sure the neighbours would rejoice about, and taking it out after dark was great too, they are really bright so was really cool for us all to watch. You can find them easily too when lit up and we realised that they bounce impressively too if you launch them straight up into the air rather than for distance – that’s lots of fun – and from that point of view they’re quite durable.

We can’t wait to take this camping in the summer, I’m going to stock up – it’ll keep the kids happy for ours on a lazy summers evening with glass of wine on the campsite.

I want to give full marks and if the fins were a little sturdier I would have no hesitation. It became a pain to hear “mum it’s broke again”. But it is a cool toy.
