The top twenty guitar riffs of all time was well debated amongst my colleagues when they heard I was going to see the show at the Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells. Everyone had their favourites and so it was with anticipation we sat waiting for the first track to start. The show starts with the amazing tones of Led Zeppelin and weaves its way through the sixties, seventies and eighties with a wealth of well-known tracks. I’m not going to spoil the surprise by telling you the actual tracks but some of the great artists you may expect to hear are Pink Floyd, The Eagles and The Who.
The band is made up of nine members, two bass and two lead guitars, drums, keyboards and vocals all of which are fantastic musicians. We found the execution of the guitar work both solo and as a band second to none. There are three main vocalists all with completely different styles and tones and as they chopped and changed between tracks you could tell they have perfectly matched song with singer.
Throughout the performance a screen behind the band shows excerpts of either the original group singing or old videos both were equally as interesting and added an little extra something to the show, they certainly took me down memory lane.
They say you know you have had a good night out if you can’t speak the next day, and I definitely had a very croaky voice this morning! It’s a fantastic feel good show and perfect for blowing the cobwebs away after a hard day at work.
The question remains are they the top twenty guitar riffs of all time? You will have to go along to the show to make up your own mind. Whether you agree or not you will be assured of a fabulous night out.
We saw the Classic Rock Show at Tunbridge Wells Assembly Hall which has easy access for wheelchairs and the less mobile, a well-stocked bar, excellent locally made ice cream and ample parking right next door.
