I hadn’t prepared myself for how much I would enjoy The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time at The Lowry in Manchester.
I had been given the book to read before going to watch the play, but had literally read the first 2 pages before being called away on “mummy duties”, afterwards I had completely forgotten. I am quite glad though that I didn’t go back to read it as I think it would have spoiled the whole experience.
This play goes above and beyond anything I have ever seen at the theatre before, it is not only captivating but spectacular.
The story sees 15 year old Christopher Boone, who has Asperger’s syndrome, set on a mission to find the person who has killed his neighbour’s dog with a garden fork. It begins as a mystery but turns into a story of how Christopher sees the world around him and how he struggles to interpret other people’s behaviour around him.
From the moment the show began, with the great use of special effects and fantastic acting we were enthralled. The journey which Christopher took during the play, left the audience spellbound and the applause at the end of the show was the loudest I have ever heard for a theatre performance.
I enjoyed this performance greatly and thought that the outstanding acting truly made the play much more enjoyable and was even funny in parts though out.
Overall, we had an amazing night and I am really looking forward to reading the book, I hope it is just as enchanting as the play.
