The Indian Platform 2 (Southside) restaurant sits in a beautiful building in a fantastic imposing location at the top of Ayr Road, Newton Mearns in Glasgow. The signage on the building is clean and classy, definitely an insight as to what to expect inside. The car park was large enough to cope with the extremely busy night they had ahead of them. During my 10 minute wait in the car park for my friend to arrive, I noticed several people park and make their way to what looked like an entrance, only to discover a locked door. Further round the building is the main entrance but perhaps this could be made clearer to the diners arriving.
Stepping inside, the decor is modern and inviting with beautiful plum coloured walls, stunning damask wallpaper and complimenting grey painted walls. A lovely reception area invites diners for a pre-dinner drink from the nearby bar and is a lovely place to unwind before or indeed, after your meal. The lighting and artwork provides a beautiful ambiance for a lovely meal out. The details of the photographs and jewellery the owners Nasreen Aksi (former Scottish Asian Businesswoman of the Year) and Chetan Parmar had framed on the wall adds to the personal touch to this immaculate restaurant (formerly the Ivy Indian Restaurant).
Being their launch evening (just four months after opening their first restaurant in Glasgow’s West End), we were greeted with a glass of prosecco and shown to our seats. The staff were in abundance for what was set to be a very busy evening.
Keen to begin our meal, we made our way to the buffet selection. The food looked and smelled amazing, but we were slightly disappointed to see there were no labels on any of the buffet servers, so we were unaware of what we were eating. Being an Indian food lover, this didn’t hold me back, but my friend had to have a root around to see if there were any ingredients she didn’t like. However, the lack of labels may have just been a mere oversight or lack of time for their launch night. The food itself was delicious, hot and spicy. The staff were continually topping up the food to ensure you always had the freshest, hottest food. The selection of food was enough for a buffet, and everything we tasted was as good as the last. The salad bar was the best I have seen in any Indian restaurant, with lots of choice and individual dishes for sauce on the side. Being the launch night, the queue did get extremely long at times, but a lovely magician was on hand to do remarkable tricks to the diners waiting in the queue. A lovely touch which joined diners in chat with each other and those queuing around them and helped the time go faster. Whilst in the queue, there is a viewing window into the kitchen where you can see the staff hard at work but clearly in control. A nice insight into what goes on in the kitchen.
The Indian Platform is set to be a successful busy restaurant, not just for local diners, but for those like myself willing to travel 45 minutes for great food. Nasreen was lovely and welcoming to all diners, standing the Indian Platform out from its competitors.
Overall, we had a lovely meal and will definitely be back.
