The Galtres Parklands Festival 2014 will feature 100 bands across 8 stages over 3 days featuring acts such as The Levellers, Bellowhead, Tricky, Morcheeba, The Human League, Public Service Broadcasting and lots more. This year it takes place on the weekend of 22-24 August 2014 in the spectacular North Yorkshire setting of Dumcombe Park, Helmsley. The festival arena will be on Park Plain, the parklands area in front of the house, backing onto the woodland. Nearby fields will be used for parking and camping. Who needs Glastonbury when Yorkshire’s got Galtres?
Now ten years old – and celebrating – Galtres Parklands Festival is one of the best family festivals in the country. Combining eight stages of music and cabaret, more than 100 fine beers and ciders all from Yorkshire (from Black Sheep Ale to Ampleforth Abbey Cider), excellent local produce catering (from Whitby Scampi to Yorkshire Puds), loads for kids to do from film making to music workshops, and all set in a beautiful and spectacular rural setting overlooking the North York Moors.
Music ranges from top chart-topping bands to local emerging talent, ranging from pop and acoustic to jazz, folk, blues and ska. Comedy, theatre and offbeat performances at the night cabaret, films, family camping and clean loos too!
One of the best weekends of the year, and one of the best-priced too with adult weekend tickets still just £95 (or less if you grab an earlybird deal). It’s organic, fair trade and green, and a share of proceeds go to charity. Don’t miss it!
The mission statement for the festival’s event management team is to organise an annual summer festival which:
Promotes original live music, dance and performance – both as audience and as artist – in line with their music and dance policy
Promotes local food and drink suppliers, in line with their food and drink policy
Encourages the participation of children, young people and families in performance art and events through creative and challenging activities, in line with their families and young people policy
Protects the local environment and promotes conservation, in line with their environment and conservation policy
Presents opportunities for other charities and community groups to raise funds and promote themsleves and, whenever possible, to make donations to such groups, in line with their charities policy
Is inspired by and celebrated by our local community, and which supports local businesses and community groups
Is great fun, culturally diverse, inspirational, different from other events, challenging, and which broadens people’s horizons.
