Well this was a tough one to review, I had to have a couple just to make sure my opinion was accurate the first time around! I’m quite a fan of cider, normally pretty dry, and although I really like the idea of different flavoured ciders, I’ve never found one that doesn’t taste like opal fruits/starburst and leave a sickeningly sweet taste in your mouth… until now. My husband described Merrydown Blackcurrant Cider as tasting like Ribena made up with proper apple juice, but even that sounds sickly compared to the refreshing taste of this.
It’s crisp, fruity, refreshing but not overly sweet… that’s the absolute best thing about it. It is clearly blackcurrant, and not an artificial tasting version, and it’s just really nice. It needs to be cold, but because it’s pretty drinkable, it stays cold and doesn’t get the chance to warm up! No sweety after taste, but perfectly drinkable.
I can’t wait for summer, as this would be perfect as the sun goes down!
