I went to the Green Room  last night (18 April 2014) at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax with my husband to see Dick & Liddy’s Comedy Club. I didn’t know the theatre had other rooms that had entertainment going on as we have only ever been in the main theatre before.

As we went into the Green Room, which is upstairs, it was very busy and noisy and it looked just like any other pub lounge, except there was a small square platform at the front. We just managed to get a seat which was also near the front. The compare came on and started to interact with the audience asking where everyone came from, then continued to ask their names, who were they with and what kind of job they did etc…, adding a few funny remarks into the conversation, which had the audience laughing.

He then went on to introduce the first comedian who was called Marlon Davies. He started his set by talking about his mum and dad, then his girlfriend and son, adding a lot of humour as he went along. He was on the stage for about 45 minutes which seemed to pass very quickly. He is a nice, friendly type of comedian and the audience seemed to find him funny.

We then had a 15 minute break while everyone went to the bar. After the break the compare came back to introduce the next comedian who was called Rob Rose. He started by introducing himself as a middle aged skinny fat man with 2 children under six. He seemed to make his life and parenting skills seem really funny and with his facial expressions and mannerisms had the audience laughing.

If you are very straight laced this show is not for you as there was a lot of swearing and rudeness in both acts. It wasn’t our kind of humour, but everybody’s humour is different.

Overall the evening was quite entertaining and it’s a good platform for up and coming comedians to launch their careers, as the likes of John Bishop and many more started here.

Rating: 3/5
