We arrived at the theatre at 6.15pm.  The Mayflower is easy to access by train or car. We chose to drive on this occasion and parked just outside the theatre. There are ample car parks around and pay and display parking in the nearby streets.

Disney’s Aladdin is now an international hit after coming off Broadway and into the West End where it stayed for 10 years. It is now on its UK tour and is showing at the Mayflower Southampton until 29th September.

As we walked into the reception area it had been beautifully decorated with an Aladdin theme and really helped to capture the magic of the journey we were about to go on. Aladdin is one mine and my daughters favourite Disney films, so we were very excited to see it come to life on stage.

We had drinks before the show, there were lots to choose from including a delicious cocktail called Genie tini. There were also photo opportunities in the area they had created with the genie lamp.

Aladdin’s luck is not on his side, he dreams of a better life for himself. He is fortunate to bump into Princess Jasmine in the market and his adventures begin. They are beyond his wildest dreams. He fights the baddies along the way and meets a genie who grants him three wishes which helps him to win his princess.

As we took our seats the stage was covered with a beautiful orange fabric which lit up in different areas as the show started and the curtain came up.

The first scene Arabian nights with the whole company was amazing and the dancing and energy from the entire company throughout all the numbers was fantastic, it was clear they were passionate about being in this production.

Aladdin played by Gavin Adams, gave a stunning performance throughout with amazing vocals, he was making his first big debut on stage since graduating. Proud Boy was sung from the heart and with so much depth.

Jasmine played by Desmomda Cathabel danced and moved around the stage so elegantly and also displayed some stunning vocals throughout, particular favourites were the duets with Aladdin when they sung ‘A Whole New World’ in a scene amongst the night sky, as they took us on a magical journey flying with an impressive flying carpet ride. Not to forget their duet ‘A Million Miles Away’.

The set changes throughout were spectacular, I was so surprised, with it being a tour. My favourite set had to be in the cave when Aladdin went down to find the lamp. It was magnificent, magical and beautifully decorated with gold and jewels. The Genie played by Yeukayi Ushe played his character with such a joy and enthusiasm. He had the audience captivated every time he came on stage and was fabulous to watch with his singing and dancing, he was very funny with lots of jokes during his performance.

The costumes were bright and colourful with so much detail and accessories added to match. Huge hats off to the ensemble who during Prince Ali, they had some very quick costume changes during a dance. It really captured the scene and the dancing was sensational, all the costume changes really added to this spectacular number.
