Wit, sparkle and nipple tassels are just a taster of what was in store when we went to see An Evening of Burlesque at the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury.
Tempest Rose walked us through the entertainment with the elegance of a Hollywood Starlet Dahrlings! With a gorgeous singing voice and her quick wit, Tempest did a wonderful work of keeping us entertained between acts. Tempest worked the audience brilliantly several times throughout the show, the highlight for me being the crash course in dance moves for us all. Tempest must have some kind of magic because even my partner stood up and shook his hips. My one and only disappointment with Tempest’s brilliant performance was “Smells like Teen Spirit” reworked and in my opinion, not in a good way.
The four piece troop The Folly Mixtures performed together for several numbers, all with fantastic costumes and with the tongue in cheek humour of a Burlesque number. Making being sexy and sassy seems as easy as shaking your bare booty at a rate of knots these ladies wowed the crowd, time and time again. Gold lame costumes, wartime whatever they wore it came off with ease and grace and even some sparkle and Champagne thrown in for good measure. As well as working well as a troop the ladies shone individually too with solo performances. The fan dance was especially fabulous and ticked all the boxes in what I expected from the routine. The fans were exquisite and I found myself wishing that I had such beautiful props.
Roger Rabbit made his Burlesque appearance strapped provocatively to Amber Topaz, dressed in red and as curvy as Jessica Rabbit herself, Amber a star in her field was beautiful, elegant and playful, and the nipple tassel fasteners were put to the test. I have no idea how she does what she does with her breasts but it is impressive.
In between dances and Tempest we were entertained by Edd Muir. Edd entertained with a magic, an impressive routine with whips and an Amazing Pole routine, that had my jaw on the floor. He must have core muscles on core muscles!
The show was a thoroughly entertaining evening, taken back to a time of true glamour and sophistication. The costumes were beautiful, the bottoms shook without a single twerk. The breasts were twirled (yes twirled!) with ease. They teased and pleased the audience and a fantastic evening was had by all, Dahrlings!
