The MIPS Illustrated Map Review

Reviewed by Amanda Hayes

Having long been a fan of bespoke items I am very happy to have been given the opportunity to review The MIPS (The Most Important Places) illustrated maps by Lucie Conoley. Each MIPS map is lovingly created by Lucie and is completely bespoke. You just let her know the places or locations most important to you, the place you met your partner, got married, special restaurants etc… to feature within the map. You can feature anything and everything in the UK and beyond.

She then creates a bespoke map containing all the locations you have pointed out as important to you. This can be done in 2D, 3D, one colour or many colours, you decide.

She also sells a selection of limited edition prints and I was lucky enough to be sent one of her maps of Balham, South London. At 29 x 29cm the square shape makes it stand out from the crowd, although you do need a reasonable sized framer or shop to be able to purchase a frame to suit, it’s worth the effort. The MIPS is very modern in design and perfectly offset on a good quality white background. The print of Balham is just one colour, magenta pink, and when hung on the wall draws you into the picture to see the detail. From far away the colour makes the impact but as you get closer you see the intricacies behind the colour, the houses, cars, people, bicycles and all the street names. The MIPS clearly shows major roads such as Balham High Road and places such as Tooting Bec Common but also shows all the minor streets. These can be shown on your own MIPS in the level of detail you require.

I wish that I had known about this artist before as The MIPS make an absolutely perfect gift for a wedding, anniversary or Valentine’s Day. They would also make an excellent birthday gift for a loved one. Much more interesting than flowers or chocolates the illustrated maps not only create lasting memories they look fantastic too.

A very innovative gift from a stunning artist.
