Justin’s Party at The Lowry Manchester Review

Reviewed by Lucy Gwilliam

Every small child I know is a huge fan of Justin Fletcher, also known as Mr Tumble, and my three year old son Oliver is no exception, so it was with great excitement that we travelled to The Lowry Theatre in Salford to watch Justin’s Party. The packed out audience was full of delighted children and their carers, waiting for their CBeebie’s favourite performer, Justin to come onto the stage.

Justin’s Party is a brand new show, with singing, dancing, games and is great fun for both children and the adults in the audience too. Justin and his helpers delighted the audience, encouraging them to participate in well-known songs ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’, ‘Do The The Hokey Cokey’ and many other family classics. Oliver absolutely loved the cake icing scene, where everyone got very messy and he laughed so much at all the silly, funny antics of the performers.

The costumes and the set are stunning, as is everything about this production.

The first act of was 50 minutes long and consisted of Justin preparing for his dog Englebert’s party. There was a 20 minute interval and a second act which was 30 minutes long. This was just long enough for little ones, without them getting bored. Not that there was any chance of that, as there was non-stop entertainment with slapstick, party poppers and general mayhem throughout.

This show is great family entertainment and is aimed at pre-schoolers, but it is just as much fun for slightly older children and their adult carers too. I asked Oliver what he thought of the show and he said ‘That was funny’. We both had an amazing time and I would really recommend it as a perfect family treat.
