I was pleased to receive two items from Zymurgorium Manchester Distillery, which arrived promptly and well packed for delivery.
Two of my favourite things at the moment are Gin and Flamingos! Everywhere I go I love to spot anything flamingo related, so I was rather giddy when the first bottle I looked at and was excited to try was the Flagingo Pink Gin (RRP: £19).

I have to say I love the name! It comes in a great looking bottle, nice and slim with my favourite creatures: Five Flamingos all on a beach – one wearing a sun hat, one prancing around with a rubber ring on her, one taking a zip of a Pink Gin Cocktail and one with her head in the sand. Seeing all this on the bottle makes me think this is going to be a fun drink.
It was a little bit awkward to first get into the bottle, as it has a sort of wax cover to peek off the cork. Once opened, it has a lovely pink colour, looks very fruity and straight away it was so nice to smell the fruitiness.
I decided that my first glass I would try would be with a couple of raspberries. Very nice. I then tried the pink gin mixed with one or two splashes of tonic water and found this so refreshing.
Having another look at the bottle it says, “Here’s a Pink Gin that has confidence! Flamingos are the strutters of the bird world, they’re exotic, vibrant and fruity which gave inspiration to this Pink Gin. Strutting in with the flavours the Caribbean of; mango, pineapple, passionfruit, all spices and ginger.” So basically this is like a normal gin but with the fantastic flavours added!
The following evening, I tried the Flagingo Pink Gin with a little prosecco and lemonade and made a fabulous cocktail. Something to mention as well about the bottle is it also as the sign of the Manchester working bee, the symbol represents the city energy and sense of community, this symbol can be found on any of Manchester public buildings, and of course a couple of years ago the working bee became more well-known with 100s of people getting the Manchester bee as a tattoo, so the symbol on the bottle made me remember.
I checked out the company Zymurgorium and on the website you can see recipes/ ideas on what you can make with this great pink gin. Ideas like baby jelly shots etc. Fascinating what you can make. Cocktails galore to enjoy with family or friends.
Gin was thought to be initially concocted by the folk serving with the royal navy in the mid to late 1800s. I think gin has come on along way since then.
This Zymurgorium Flagingo Pink Gin that I received was a 50cl bottle, 38%vol and retails at £19. Well worth the price and really is a must try. Go ahead and give it a try yourself, or when you have friends or family over. This would make a perfect Christmas gift, or for any other special occasion.
Time to be a flamingo in a flock of pigeons and sit and relax and enjoy this very tasty pink gin.
The 2nd bottle I was happy to review from Zymurgorium, was a bottle of Marmalade Gin reasonably priced at £30, which also arrive well packed for delivery.

Woow! Gin is so up and coming these days isn’t it, and although I’ve tried a few on evenings out etc. I’ve never come across a Marmalade Gin, or maybe it was there but I didn’t spot it.
So, I’m now fascinated to see what this will taste like, what else I can do with it and as a sociable drink, what nibbles etc. would best accompany it.
Right then, about the bottle itself, you cannot see the gin as this one comes in a very dark brown bottle with a bright orange label. Like on all this company’s other bottles it has the same Manchester working bee symbol.
Also on this good quality label it says, “Welcome to the taste of morning, like a day of bright morning sun this gin as a true citrus twang that’ll wake-up your senses.”
The bottle also has the hard-wax type seal over the cork and as I popped the cork off there was a very strong orange smell — very nice!
As on all alcohol bottles the label makes you aware of drink awareness – at the end of the day we all have to be responsible and drink aware don’t we, especially when you read that this 50cl Zymurgorium Marmalade Gin is 40% alcohol.
I found it interesting to read a little bit about this company, I had not heard of them before. They say they base all the products on the uncompromising quality you deserve. Zymurgorium hand crafts small batch spirits. The distillery was founded in Wythenshawe, but is now based in Irlam, Manchester.
So first I tried the marmalade gin with a small amount of lemonade, it smelt delicious, was quite strong and had a bit of a kick to it! But it was very refreshing and enjoyable.
As before, if you go on the company’s website you will see a recipe idea. Quite an easy one. As all you need is 50ml Zymurgorium Marmalade Gin, 1tsp caster sugar, 25ml lemon juice, 1tsp marmalade, lemon or lime wedges and elderflower tonic or soda. Sounds easy – and they say serve in an old Duerrs marmalade jar.
This seems to be the ‘norm’ these days doesn’t it, no more enjoying drinks out of a normal shaped glass, but to give it a go and try in something different.
And the Duerrs marmalade jars, they are very easy to purchase. So guess what! A trip to the local supermarket to purchase a jar of Duerrs marmalade had to be done.
I made some marmalade tarts and then the jar was ready for me to try this little cocktail recipe. And the jar can be used again and again, marvellous.
The drink was great!
Gin is a very sociable drink I think and as come on a very long way from the original plain and simple gin and tonic. Thank goodness (although some people may still enjoy). I was also intrigued to find out if I could make desserts with this drink and came across recipes for Light gin sorbet and also a cheesecake, something I will definitely being having a go at.
If you love marmalade, and you love gin, I’m sure you would enjoy this Zymurgorium Marmalade Gin. Very warm and enjoyable.
Both these bottles of gin would be a marvellous Christmas present for any of your increasing popular gin loving friends. I’m sure they will thank you for introducing them to this company that have brought some fantastic flavours together. I’m so glad gin has changed for the better. Thank you, Zymurgorium Manchester Distillery.
Both the Flagingo Pink Gin and the Marmalade Gin get a big thumbs up from me
