With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching I was asked to review the ‘You’re My Lobster’ Prosecco & Chocolate Hamper by Hampers.com.
My first impression of the hamper was very positive, it came in a lovey white box with a golden inlay, looking like a very luxurious gift that anyone would love to receive for a valentine’s day gift. Inside the box I found a 75cl,11v, bottle of Tenuta Sconta extra dry prosecco and a chocolate lobster. Inside the box it does look like a really nice gift.
The chocolate lobster is in a lovely box, well presented. The actual lobster is a hollow, milk chocolate shell, wrapped in a pink foil. Underneath the foil the chocolate does look like a lobster which is good. The chocolate is hand crafted, ethically sourced, and made by Choc Coco which are based in Dorset. The chocolate weighs in at 125g.
The chocolate is made from 47% Columbian coco beans and uses organic milk, and as I said handcrafted, so I was expecting it to taste really nice, unfortunately that was not the case. I found the taste to be quite bland although it did melt in my mouth like a good milk chocolate should, however I found that it left a film like texture at the top of my mouth, it is quite difficult to explain, but it was not very nice. It did not taste as good as some other brands of chocolate on the market within the same price range or less. It was really disappointing.
The prosecco was a full size 75cl bottle. A 75cl / 750 ml bottle of prosecco will give you between 4-6 glasses, depending on your pour, so you should get a couple of glasses each. The prosecco tasted nice, but nothing too special really. Having a look at the brand Tenuta Sconta extra dry, I found it in a local supermarket at a very reasonable price, less if you had their store card!
Unfortunately I found the hamper quite disappointing. The box was of good quality, it looked expensive, there was a lot of packaging in the box, which yes gives a lot of protection for the prosecco and chocolate, however it does give the illusion of it being of a bigger gift. I did show it to a few of my girlfriends and they all said that they would be disappointed if they had received the hamper especially for the price.
I think that it would have been better with a box of smaller shaped filled lobster shaped chocolates and a better quality prosecco or two smaller bottles.
The ‘You’re My Lobster’ Prosecco and Chocolate Hamper retails at £45.00. Unfortunately I would not pay £45 for the hamper I received. I feel that I could spend far less and get a much better gift.
At Hampers.com you can find a really good selection of hampers for all occasions, with varying prices. I have had hamper from Hampers.com before and loved them, fantastic products and quality, lovely quality packaging.
Unfortunately the ‘You’re My Lobster’ Prosecco and Chocolate Hamper did not meet my expectations or taste buds, and I found it to be very expensive for the items in the hamper.
