Christmas was just the right time to try out the Haier I-Master Series 5 Hand Blender With Accessories.

I’m not one for kitchen accessories.  I don’t even own a microwave, but, there have certainly been times when I’ve wished I had a little extra help when preparing food.  The I-Master is my new best friend.

I’m the least technical of people and when confronted with this tool with so many pieces I was a little overwhelmed. However, I needn’t have been – the assembling of the product couldn’t be simpler.  The four helpful attachments just slot in place and then twist out when you’re done. No fuss or fight whatsoever.  Ready to blend, whisk, chop, or mash in seconds.

Just before Christmas, our Elf on the Shelf left us all the ingredients to bake a Christmas Tree shaped cake.  My daughters were so excited when I showed them my new kitchen tool.  They love baking but not the arm ache from the stirring that comes with it.  So first up on trial was the whisk attachment.

The Blender has a trigger-style handle designed to give you full control and easily adjusted power.  The super-powerful 1000W motor does take some getting used to.  On our first attempt, it was almost too powerful as much to the kids’ amusement, the batter mix splashed everywhere!  But as they say, practice makes perfect and as a newbie to hand blenders, I hold my hands up and declare my inexperience part of the issue.  Do take it steady though.

The girls were amazed by how quickly we whisked away all the lumps and bumps of our batter; mixing spoons are now well and truly a thing of the past.

I did feel like the lead is a little short, especially when trying to negotiate the whisking between two kids and having to consider manoeuvres into position so everyone got a turn.  Still, we whipped up the perfect texture and the reduction in prep time was huge; the girls loving that we could just get the cake mixture in the oven and get on with decorating our bake. And no achy arms.

Next up, on Christmas Day itself was the making of mash potato.  Mash is one of my favourite sides, husband, despite being designated Masher, can take it or leave it.  Not anymore.  Getting his hands on the masher attachment, he loved the end result – beautifully creamy mash.  The I-Master is his new ally for squashing them spuds.  I have to agree, the mash topped any of our previous hand-plunged attempts.  The texture was top notch.

The suite of attachments are dishwasher safe (or in our case, sink safe).  The masher attachment does come apart but does take a little extra cleaning; but it’s worth it for the excellent work it will have done!

The blender attachment is fantastic too.  The super-sharp blades cut through hard and soft ingredients both quickly and consistently.  The product description suggests you’ll have precise speed control but I did need some time to get use to the trigger button.  I was a little trigger happy at first, but I actually enjoyed perfecting my technique.

This fabulous kitchen tool offers the means to chop, blend or puree to your heart’s content, and with a little practice I turned out a chunky vegetable soup, a smooth tomato sauce and a neatly chopped onion and herb mixture.

The I-Master looks smart and is smart.  I felt quite the professional amateur Chef!  I consider it a welcome addition to my otherwise pretty tech-less kitchen.  It feels well-made; sturdy, steady and sleek.  I’m hoping it’ll last me some time. For the price, all it’s capable of and the time and energy it saves, it’s a very worthwhile investment.
