In September The WizardingWorld.com released a new series of pins to their Gold members and these are now released for sale to everyone. These new badges which celebrate the Hogwarts Houses and fly the flag of the colours and values of each.
Many fans will recognise the importance of pins and badges throughout the Harry Potter books, Percy Weasley wore his prefect badge with pride and later Ron and Hermione sported theirs.
Harry had his opportunity later when he was given a pin for being Quidditch Captain for Gryffindor.
My daughters wear pins and badges on their school uniform, the one streak of individuality that they’re allowed and they like to make the most of it. So they were delighted when we received pins for review. Each of the pins we received retails at £8.95. There’s plenty more to choose from on the website too and with new pins being released there’s always something new to seek.
They arrived, neatly packaged in individual slip packets and each pin is attached on themed cardboard backing.
The pins are unique to the pin seekers of The Wizarding World. The pins we received are emblematic of the colours of each house, Slytherin for example depicts a green scarf with the words “Perhaps in Slytherin you’ll make your real friends”.
This quote is taken from J.K. Rowling — ‘Or perhaps in Slytherin, you’ll make your real friends. Those cunning folk use any means to achieve their ends.’
The pins are high gloss enamel and according to the website some of them glow in the dark! There are special edition pins to look for too.
There are also set boxes which look pretty cool for the die-hard Potter fan. They come in sets of six, all connected to the house that the Sorting Hat chose for you. The colours, images, characters, animal, crest and more will feature in these boxes. No more stand alones if you’re looking for the full set. Some of these simply aren’t individual separately. The boxes are hexagonal shaped and in keeping with the house colours. Again the pins we received are available as part of these sets.
In addition, on the back of each card is an Enchanted Key, there’s a Wizarding World app and each of these Enchanted Keys will unlock a new surprise.
In the tried and tested school uniform phase both my daughters can testify that the pins have remained secure and, the part they like best, no one else has them. Or at least not yet! Christmas isn’t far away and these or the sets would make lovely gifts for the dedicated Harry Potter fans of the world.
There’s more to find on the Wizarding World website, this replaces the older Pottermore site. You can be sorted into your house, find out which wand would suit your wizarding self, discover your patronus and much more. There’s also a host of quizzes you can take, perfect for Halloween fun too.
There’s a discount if you’re part of the fan club.
