Being a real chocoholic, I was delighted to receive a hamper, full of chocolate goodies, to taste and review. The name, Wickedly Welsh, gives both a sense of the company’s national pride and the anticipation of something being a little naughty and indulgent. It is a family run business based in Pembrokeshire, Wales, and they use their own recipes to make artisan chocolates.
The hamper was wrapped in bubble wrap inside the cardboard box. The white hamper simply had the name of the company on the lid and the red sides added to the opulence; there was a magnetic fastening to keep the selection closed and a sense of eager anticipation and excitement when opening the hamper. The company states that all the packaging is compostable and recyclable. Wickedly Welsh chocolates are all hand made using the best ingredients, many of which are sourced from local suppliers. There are no additives, and the ingredients are clearly listed on each item, vital information for allergy sufferers.
This hamper included the following items:
Orange and cranberry bar – this was a mix of dark and milk chocolate swirled together, flavoured with orange. The cranberry added texture but the flavour was masked by the orange.
Coffee and biscuit bar – dark chocolate flavoured with coffee. The biscuit pieces were very small so a pleasant smoothness to the chocolate was maintained.
Gingerbread fudge bar – this was a milk chocolate bar and although I like milk chocolate, this was my least favourite bar as I’m not keen on the flavour of gingerbread.
Mint humbug bar – the peppermint flavouring was quite strong in this milk chocolate bar and again, the butterscotch only really added to the texture.
Raspberry and vodka bar – this was my favourite bar although I couldn’t taste the vodka! The dark chocolate with a raspberry ganache giving it a smooth, softer texture, was a real delight.
Box of 6 luxurious chocolates with a Christmas theme.
2 packets of milk chocolate puddles (buttons).
2 sachets of milk drinking chocolate – each sachet is sufficient for 2 mugs.
2 bags of mini marshmallows to top the hot chocolate.
Wickedly Welsh chocolates are an online shop. As well as hampers, bars of chocolate and more traditional boxes of chocolates can also be purchased. A personal message can be added if the item is being sent directly as a gift. Free shipping is available for orders of over £50; otherwise, £4.50 will be added to your order. They also offer a corporate service for business customers. I think the pricing of these chocolates offers good value to the customer. They offer a range of flavours and textures so there should be something for everyone.
They also offer an Advent Calendar, Chocolate Yule logs and other Christmas themed goodies so it is well worth looking at their website for Christmas present inspiration. The hampers are great for celebrating special occasions or just to share with friends and family although it may be wiser to simply treat yourself!
