Westland Sleep Bathing Salts arrived in a 1kg pouch a very relaxing shade of lilac with the subheading “drift into a peaceful night’s sleep”. In today’s busy, stressful lives the promise of a good night’s sleep is very appealing to keep us alert and active during our hectic daytime.
Epsom salts have a long history of being restorative and good for our health. Bathing with Epsom Salts helps relax tired and aching muscles and are great for cleansing the body as well as increasing magnesium in the body.
Epsom Salts aren’t actually salts but instead magnesium sulphate. Magnesium aids muscle control, energy production and help to regulate the activity of more than 300 enzymes in the body. Absorbing magnesium through the skin bypasses the digestive system where many nutrients, including magnesium, are poorly absorbed.
Research suggests that bathing 90 minutes before bedtime can promote restful sleep as it signals to the body that it’s time to sleep and prepare the mind for a peaceful night’s sleep. The pouch also has a few sleep hacks recommending that as the blue light from screens can disrupt sleep make sure these are switched off well before the bath and bed routine.
As well as the benefits of Epsom Salts this product contains Dead Sea Salts and the essential oils lavender, ylang ylang and jasmine as well as valerian, which is a herbal supplement that promotes restful sleep. The perfect combination!
After having children and as the menopause approaches I struggle with sleep and often wake up several times a night, with thoughts racing through my mind, and it takes me ages to nod back off so I was very interested to see how the salts (combined with a regular sleep routine) would help me.
A couple of handfuls added to a warm bath are all that are needed. Obviously, the salt just dissolves in the bath water and you don’t have any bubbles. The bathroom is filled with the comforting scents of relaxing minerals and there is no denying it is a heavenly experience to unwind in especially when teamed with candlelight. As well as relaxing the mind the salts are beneficial for soothing aching muscles and painful joints and my skin felt super soft.
After the first night of using this product I slept soundly and woke up feeling energised! In order to establish a routine this needs to be repeated most nights, so I am using the salts for at least three nights a week with fantastic results. Fingers crossed things stay that way!
Westland Sleep Bath Salts are 100% natural, vegan and cruelty free. You should not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or on broken skin. The 1kg pouch is priced at £7.99 which is very reasonable price to pay.
If getting a good night’s sleep is top of your list of priorities, this product is heartily worth a go. Using these salts and following a simple sleep routine can work wonders in our overall wellbeing in ensuring a peaceful night’s sleep and soothing an aching body and tired mind.
