We have just got back from a brilliant family day out at We The Curious which is a Science Museum in Bristol.

We The Curious is located right on Bristol harbourside.  We parked in the Millennium Square car park and were just a few steps away from all the action. The museum is easy to find and is in a great location with the massive, mirrored sphere outside in the square of fun water fountains.

We are a family of 4 (Mum and Dad and girls aged 9 and 3) it’s safe to say we can struggle to find something to do that’s enjoyable for all age groups but We The Curious has it cracked.

On entering the museum the kids were immediately engaged, they felt comfortable to explore and play and this put us at ease straight away, I didn’t feel worried about them being too noisy and relaxed knowing that their playful exploration was encouraged.

It was clear early on that this was a place we could all enjoy not to mention the added educational benefits. On the ground floor they saw what their souls looked like, met with a Robot, turned invisible on a green screen and recorded slow motion videos just to name a few of the wonders. Many of the exhibits were beautiful and I liked to see science working well alongside art. We filled a hot air balloon and milked a cow all under the same roof.

The real highlight of our day was the Planetarium, we decided to split up for this and see 2 different shows aimed at the kids ages. For the little one we went to ‘Spin the Spaceship’ this was really family friendly and kept her engaged the whole time, we visited different planets and met with an alien called Blurgle Wurgle.

For my eldest we went to the ‘3D Expedition Solar System’ show, this was really captivating and the 3D element made it truly immersive.

There were other shows running throughout the day, and we would love to return so we can see them.

After the Planetarium we explored the animation area, there were lots of opportunities here to be creative and we all liked that Morph and Wallace & Gromit were featured, we came home with a few drawings as souvenirs and made a short animation.

There was also a well utilised play area upstairs with a house building theme, the kids were loving it in there building the most ambitious properties with giant LEGO bricks. The bubble zone was a favourite of both girls and worth a mention too.

We The Curious was a brilliant day out and there was something there for everyone. Not only was it fun but it kept us out of the rain and was educational, we all took a lot away from our visit.

Although the day we visited the museum was fully booked we did not feel it was too crowded and could freely enjoy the exhibits without waiting for anything.

There is so much more to see than I could describe and I would highly recommend a visit.  We stayed until they kicked us out and could have easily stayed longer.

There is a nice cafe on site for lunch which was reasonably priced and served a good cup of coffee.

Admission prices are from £18.50 for adults and £12.65 for children, they also offer concessions and under 2’s go free. This is excellent value for a full day out and we will be returning without a doubt.

Thank you for a wonderful day out and for all the memories we made.
