I was fortunate enough to be allocated the Wave Case Essentials Bundle to review and couldn’t wait for my parcel to arrive. It arrived really quickly and consisted of the following items:

Wave Case Samsung Galaxy S20 FE case

Wave Case AirPods 1st & 2nd Gen earbud case

Wave Case Roll Top Back Pack

Wave Case Water Bottle

Wave is a North East based business, started by two friends who wanted to make a major change to our plastic consumption, due to the devastating effects it has on our oceans. Their first product, the Wave Case was a biodegradable phone case made from wheat straw. They have since expanded their range of eco-friendly, sustainable products.

In line with Wave’s ethos, they are also members of the 1% for the Planet scheme, which is a global movement encouraging businesses to give 1% of their sales back to the environment. Which in the current climate crisis is absolutely brilliant. Additionally, they also use minimal packaging, which is 100% recyclable and don’t use any unnecessary packaging, which I find is a refreshing change. I was so pleased that the only packaging which came with the items was an outer cardboard box and the box encasing the water bottle, which was all recycled through my household collection. A big well done to them!

The Wave Case Samsung Galaxy S20 FE case I received was a turquoise colour, with a faint speckled design and the Wave logo on the back. This particular case comes in 7 different colour options, so there’s something for everyone. They have cases for Samsung, iPhone and Google phones, with loads of different model and design options.

As soon as the case arrived, I popped it on my phone and it was a perfect fit. The buttons worked brilliantly, without any issues, as can often be the case. What I particularly liked about the phone case was that it was very slightly textured to the touch, so provided a good grip and I felt confident that it wouldn’t slip out of my hand. However, even if it had slipped out of my hand, I could rest assured that my phone would be protected, as it is military grade tested, has shock absorbing corners and has a 2mm lip around the edge of the screen and camera, as such it would be fully protected.

The case itself is made from wheat straw, which I had never heard of before, but is an eco-friendly material and is an environmentally-friendly alternative to plastic. You could be fooled into thinking the case was made from plastic, as it closely resembles plastic and looks strong and robust. What a great eco-friendly alternative this is, what’s not to love!

When it comes to charging your phone, the case is wireless charging compatible too, so really does tick every box.

The Wave Case retails at £25, which at first glance may seem quite high in comparison to other phone covers. However, you need to weigh up the fact that by choosing this product, you are helping to keep our oceans plastic-free and I don’t think you can really put a price on that. Also, if you sign up to their website, you can save 10% on your first order.

I also received an AirPods (1st & 2nd Gen) earbud case, in the same turquoise colour as the phone case and also made from wheat straw as detailed above. The earbud case is basically a surrounding case in which to put your charging case, therefore the bottom and lid of the case come as separate pieces. I was supplied with a carabiner clip to attach my earbud case onto my keyring, which was a handy little addition.

The earbud case retails for £18, which is relatively high, but again, can you put a price on helping to save the environment?

The Wave Roll Top Back Pack I received was in the charcoal grey colour (there are 2 colour options available for this back pack). The back pack is made from recycled plastic material (with up to 40 plastic bottles used to make each one), so once again another brilliant sustainable item and it’s Global Recycled Standard verified. The back pack is waterproof, has padded, adjustable straps and a capacity of 18L. It even has an inside padded laptop pocket (up to 17”) in the main compartment and a side pocket for your Wave Case Water bottle. It’s absolutely brilliant to take my laptop to and from work, rather than using a standard over-the-shoulder laptop bag. Although, it is adaptable and could be used for a number of different scenarios.

The Roll Top Back Pack retails for £35 which is a really reasonable price for what you’re getting. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

The final item I received was a stylish stainless steel, vacuum insulated Wave Case Water Bottle, which comes in a lovely dark blue colour with a silver Wave logo on the front. The bottle has a capacity of 600ml and is capable of keeping cold drinks cold for up to 24 hours and hot drinks hot for 12 hours, as the cap is insulated too. It’s perfect to refill, rather than relying on drinks in single use plastic bottles.

The water bottle is great for doing your bit for the planet, but at £20, I think it’s quite steeply priced, considering there are plenty of alternative similar water bottles on the market, retailing for a cheaper price.

The company offer free Royal Mail delivery, which is advertised as being Carbon Neutral, which is also a massive selling point.

All of these items make fantastic gift ideas, especially for the men in your life and with Father’s Day looming on the horizon, I’m sure any dad would love to receive one or a combination of these items.
