Days Out

Valentines at the Natural History Museum

A Valentine’s for romantics and cynics alike at the Natural History Museum

Valentine’s Day will send some of us into a fit of romantic swooning, while others reach for a bucket at the first sign of red roses, heart-shaped chocolates or fluffy pink teddy bears. Luckily, the Natural History Museum has something for everyone this February.

Choose between two Valentine’s Night Safaris: take the Turn Me On tour for an insight into the winsome ways of romance in the animal world, or take the Turn Me Off alternative to reveal nature’s darker side. Whichever tour you select, an evening of surprising revelations await, as Museum scientists bring their favourite specimens out from behind the scenes.

The Turn Me On tour will show some of the most inspiring examples of romance in nature. If you think finding a soulmate with your fast-paced London life is hard, get some inspiration from the creatures of the deep sea and discover bizarre practices of chivalry in the beetle world. Who knows, you may even pick up a few tips on how to seduce your own valentine…

On the Turn Me off tour, Valentine-skeptics can look forward to checking out some of the Museum’s most vile, creepy and downright dangerous specimens. This hair-raising route will take you past flesh-eating beetles, carnivorous plants and parasitoid wasps, not to mention some nasty insects that bite, sting and get under your skin – ensuring that romance is fully out of your mind.

At the end of the evening both tours culminate in our pop-up bar, with a chance to mingle and share your experiences, while soaking up the stunning architecture of the Museum’s Central Hall.
