Railcard kindly offered the chance of a years card which having just started travelling with my job around the east I thought I would volunteer. Via the railcard.co.uk site there is a variety of options available to suit everyone.
A card can save you around a third off your fares, which lets face it, during this cost of living crisis, is a win in my books! We are all cutting back, not travelling or socialising as much as maybe before due to rising costs, between the pandemic and the price of your food shopping or heating your house, this card really is a valuable addition to your wallet.
When you go the railcard website, you can choose either the help me choose option by answering a few questions, or select from the options. There is the 16-25 railcard, which we as a family bought our son for many years, he travelled for his training, so the savings really added up, far outweighing the yearly cost for the card. If you are over 60 years old there is the Senior Railcard, I am not quite there yet so this one wasn’t for me! If you travel as a group a lot, then Family and Friends maybe the one for you, this is for children aged 5-15 years and up to four children and four adults can travel using this card and save money. I was surprised to see a Veterans Card for veterans of the UK forces, well done Railcard. If you and your partner like to travel together then I would highly recommend the Two Together Railcard. We have recently been to London to see some shows, and have been amazed at how much we have saved on our rail fares, it really does make a difference, we are not just talking a few pence. It really has made London accessible for us as a couple. We have travelled at least once a month at the weekends this year using the card to make substantial savings every time. There is also a Disabled Persons Railcard, which if you have a disability that makes travel by train difficult you may qualify for this card is just £20 per year of £54 for 3 years. To compliment the younger persons railcard there is a 26-30 Railcard, so if you travel for work or pleasure this would suit you. If you are like me, and travel for work or with friends, then the Network Railcard is the one, this is for anyone over 16 years old. There is also a 16-17 year old saver card, which offers some amazing savings.
Signing up for the card was easy and straight forward, you can even select a digital version, uploading your photograph there and then so you are good to go in around five minutes. If you are old school, then you can have a card posted out to you. Then all that remains is to book your tickets either online or at the station, remembering to add the railcard you have to get the discounts.
At £30 per year or £70 for three years for most of these cards, can you afford not to grab yourself one from the huge variety offered! For us as a family this is our go to saver card, fabulous value for money.
