I went to Thorpe Park on its opening weekend, also known as happy height day, where the first 500 children between a certain height get in free. I took two teenagers and my 7 year old twins.
Luckily we got a gold priority ride voucher which allowed us to fast track every ride unlimited times. Fantastic as the park was pretty busy for its opening weekend.
We headed straight for Colossus, at 30 meters high with lots of daring loops, corkscrews and a cobra roll this is my idea of fun. I love the thrill rides so went straight over to Nemesis Inferno which is a bit higher and has a G-Force of 4.2, similar to an astronaut during a rocket launch!
I then talked my very brave teenagers into trying Stealth, it’s high very high over 60 meters and superfast at 0-80 mph in under 2 seconds … Wow!! This is my all-time favourite thrill and I love it everytime. My teenagers though refused to do Saw the Ride after this… Ha ha, so I headed off on my own and let the kids all go and try the wet rides – thankfully they all had a poncho to keep a bit dryer it as a sunny day but a bit chilly still so I went. Back to Saw the Ride, alone this drops you at an inverted angle off 100 degrees from 200 feet high so the thrills just keep coming.
After I found the kids a little bit wet we had lunch at Burger King, unfortunately our Merlin passes didn’t give us a discount here but with 20% off in most places and the gift shops it’s well worth having.
After lunch the teenagers had recovered enough to try the Swarm – Thorpe Park’s newest ride and it has to be one of the UK’s best rides. It looks fantastic too with the disaster scene crashed plane and helicopter, a fire engine, ambulance and the burnt out church, it really has great attention to detail. The Swarm stands at over 38 meters and is 775 meters long, it’s just amazing, I have faced it forwards and braved it backwards. All thrill seekers will love this!
The little ones had a great time on the Rumba Rapids (3 times), Mr Monkey Banana Ride (2 times), X (4 times), Depth Charge (3 times) and the Flying Fish countless times. With so many rides we missed out a few off the others but I will be back next month for the opening of the new Angry Birds 4d and the dodgems. We would love to stay overnight in the Shark Hotel that’s new this year.
I’m rating my day a full 5/5 the staff were helpful and friendly, the park was nice and clean and we all had a great time as always at Thorpe Park. There is always something to do for all the family and some great thrilling rides.
