The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Darwen Library Theatre, Lancashire
Showing until 24 December 2013

Darwen Library Theatre is a lovely venue situated in the centre of Darwen, it was easy to find and there was plenty of free parking available.
The traditional Wizard of Oz story had been adapted very slightly to produce a panto style show allowing for plenty of audience participation. A couple of additional songs, jokes and banter kept the audience engaged throughout.
Although a small theatre, the production was full size in every way. Each scene was depicted with an impressive set worthy of a much bigger production. The actors were all outstanding and played their parts without losing their Kansas accent throughout the show. This really helped to draw us into the story.
The baddie of the show was The Wicked Witch of the West who portrayed her character superbly with a cackle that was a perfect imitation of the witch in the film.
This is a play for all the family, I watched it with my husband and sons who are 8 and 12 and even a grumpy 12 year old who said he was too old for the show was clapping and laughing all the way through.
