The London transport museum reveals over 200 years of history from London carriages to be underground. As the Museum celebrates 150 years of underground service, you begin your journey in the museum on the second floor by being transported to 1800.

Children are given, on arrival, an adventure pack which encourages them to find 13 different "stamps" throughout the museum where they can discover and explore each object.

There are a variety of artefacts, many of which are interactive and which you can sample to gain a true perspective of what it would have been like in those times do use London Transport services. As you are taken on a journey spanning 200 years, you learn about the perils, excitement and frustrations of service users and employees alike, including the terrible conditions in which many of them worked and travelled.

Thankfully much has changed since then with improvements in transport and technology allowing all who use the services to travel in relative comfort and style.

We particularly enjoyed the lift which transports you through virtual time travel to 1800, as it counts down the years from present day to that period.

We also enjoyed the ways in which you could interact with buses and railway carriages making the experience even more real and believable.

When we had trouble finding one of the "stamps" we were able to find a member of staff easily to come to our aid who was pleasant and helpful.

One thing I will say, is that being set in Covent Garden, this is a particularly popular venue for parents and children who can visit the museum easily and then continue their day shopping in this central location. By 10.30am the queues to get in were extremely long which strengthens the case for pre-booking your tickets.

There is a large gift shop and coffee shop on site making this an all in one, ideal day out for the family at a very reasonable price.

An adult ticket costs £15 and gives you unlimited access to the museum for a whole year. Children under 16 go FREE.
