The Hodgeheg by Dick King-Smith Review

Reviewed by Meresa Bergin

The book arrived quickly and was well packed, I expected the book to be larger but felt it was a good size for the age range it was aimed at.

I read the book to a range of children aged 3-15 and some of the older children read it themselves. The children were very interested in the story of Max, the children I shared the book with were sick or had siblings that were ill and they were very engaged with the task and mission Max had set for himself, how he tried and tried again, not giving up. The children told me Max was a hero and never give up.

The book was left with the children inbetween the time I was there to read it to them and I was told by staff the book was very popular and requested at story time on a lot of occasions.

That the younger children needed help with the book, which is to be expected as it is aimed at older children but they loved looking at the pictures. Some of the older children were able to read alone and enjoyed this.

Max the Hodge-Heg fits in beautifully with our own house of little heroes!

A wonderful book of courage and passion to achieve the dreams we have.
