My friend who had seen Fascinating Aida a few months back has been raving about them ever since so I jumped at the chance of to be there in person for their show Charm Offensive at Stockport Plaza. Of course she insisted on coming along with me for another helping from these Queens of comedy.
We took our seats in a very buzzing auditorium, I was sat next to a lady (she was 65 – she told me!) and her cousin (also 65!) they asked had I seen the show before, I told them no. One of the ladies had seen Fascinating Aida twice before and brought her cousin from Wales for this must see show. So I would say they have a very loyal following of a wide age range of mainly females.
Dillie Keane, Adele Anderson and Liza Pulman make up the extremely talented trio and for two hours they give it their all. There are plenty of big belly laugh numbers, I particularly enjoyed their “Down with the Kids” rap where the ladies who are of a certain age bust some moves! “Boomerang Kids” had me crying with laughter as did the two I already knew “Dogging” and “Cheap Flights”. I would say those of a sensitive disposition give Fascinating Aida a wide berth as a lot of the material is very near the knuckle. An idea of current affairs news is also handy as they refer to them very cleverly quite often.
Not all of it is laugh a minute, I was very surprised at the tear jerking Mum and Daughter, Old Home and Prisoner of Gender pieces. They have the ability to have you one minute needing a Tena Lady as you’re laughing so much to the next reaching for a hankie to dry the tears – genius.
I absolutely loved the show. Full of amazing lyrics brought to us by beautiful singers and performers. Dillie, who I felt was the star told us they will be taking a break after Easter to write a new show and I for one can’t wait. They finished with a little ditty about Stockport itself which went down very well and was a superb end to fantastic evening.
I always enjoy my visits to Stockport Plaza the building itself it stunning and the staff especially the gentleman who mans the main entrance are always smart, polite and knowledgeable. Parking was a bit of a nightmare this time as one of the main car parks was closed but we managed it in the end within a few minutes walking distance. Hopefully the repairs will be done before my next visit.
A great big with a smile on my face.
