Situated in Nottingham city centre, Rock City is easy to find with 2 secure multi storey car parks just a stone’s throw away making parking no hassle. Rock City is an independent night club/music venue with a very intimate and ‘grungy’ atmosphere. I absolutely love the small size of the gig it was a breath of fresh air from the arena gigs I’ve been to recently, you almost felt like you shared the stage with the acts. All the staff were very friendly and I felt very safe with security on the doors and inside the venue. I will definitely be going to see more bands at Rock City, I loved it!
Supporting the mighty Black Label Society is no easy task but Black Tusk did a sterling job of getting the whole crowd ready for the main event of the evening. After a short break between bands the crushing sound of Zack Wylde (Guitar and Vocals) hit my ears. The sound at the venue was awesome, with crystal clear high end and the kind of bass that you feel in your body more than you hear.
The set list was a perfect blend of new and old, kicking off with songs like ‘My Dying Time’ from the 2014 release ‘Catacombs of the Black Vatican’ with sprinkles of fan favourites like ‘Bleed For Me’ and ‘Suicide Messiah’. The multi-talented Zack Wylde split the set in half by putting down his guitar and sitting at a keyboard for a beautiful rendition of ‘In This River’.
Black Label Society are a must see, their diversity and musicianship make them accessible and easy to appreciate regardless of your own personal preference.
