eatsleepdoodle Colour & Learn World Map Tablecloth Review

Reviewed by Linda Pickford

I was so pleased when my eatsleepdoodle Colour & Learn World Map Tablecloth arrived through my letterbox. It was in a good plastic wallet with a firm cardboard lining. It was a little small for my kitchen table being 50 inches by 33 inches (130x85cms) but covered enough for easy colouring. I couldn’t wait for my grandsons to arrive so opened the wallet of 10 wash-out pens and set to work. I can fully understand why adult colouring books are so popular. It’s so calming.

All too soon the boys arrived and they wanted to take over. Fine by me, I could carry on cooking the dinner whilst they coloured. One was taken with the points of the compass at the top of the map so we discussed what they were used for. He was also interested with the numbers on various parts of the world. We looked closely and discovered that they were the 7 Wonders of the Modern World. He followed each one and he read out the name. Meanwhile the other one was keener on colouring the sharks and fish. Each continent had pictures relating to their natural history and architecture. For example; Russia had ballet dancers, Russian Dolls and Borscht soup. The Trans-Siberian Railway and the Equator were also marked. In fact, every time you sit down you see more items of interest. We also learnt about sailing around the world and whale migration.

The following day I washed it carefully following the instructions on the packaging and also on the label itself. I was worried whether all the ink would come out but it did, except for a slight tinge where a whale had been coloured a very enthusiastic red. I also think it works better with something stable underneath to stop it moving on a shiny surface.

Onward to a younger child who loved the colours but needed us to sit down with her to work together. More conversations but this time about suitable pens for each item. Unfortunately, there is no dark brown but we utilised the orange. She also couldn’t manage to push the pen lids back on after use. They need to be tight to keep the ink moist.

I was very pleased with the tablecloth and in fact I have added it to my Christmas (sorry) present list. An ideal gift to keep them busy while the adults are talking at the dinner table. I will also be checking out their other items for more ideas.
