I was delighted to be asked to review The Sooty Show Live at the Theatre Royal in Brighton as I was a huge fan as a child. I haven’t seen it since it has come back on television but I know it is a big hit with children all over again. I was never lucky enough to see him the first time around or meet him so I was more excited than my friend’s little girl who is four, I think!
Arriving at the theatre my little friend was so transfixed, she has been before to see another show and asked many times to return. She loved her “posh seat” and looking up at the ceiling and the lights and was so pleased when asked for her ticket like a grown up!
We took our seats and there was excited chatter amongst the children and adults as we all waited for Sooty, Soo and my favourite, Sweep to appear! We had great seats but the staff had little cushions for the children to sit on if they couldn’t see which I thought was a lovely touch. The toilets are at the back of the room which is handy for the little ones!
Daisy kept asking when Sooty was coming on and was overjoyed when she heard him, the show was amazing, it was Sooty’s birthday and there was so much for the kids to do, including dancing and singing. She was a little upset that only the kids at the front got water thrown at them, I myself was not! But maybe some of the door people could do this to the kids further back but I guess you pay for the front tickets for a reason.
We then had a break for 15 minutes, although Daisy was confused by the fact she counted to 15 and the show wasn’t back on! The second half was slightly shorter but Daisy was in Sooty heaven! When the show finished she refused to leave the hall as she wanted him to come back on! There was a little confusion in where to go to meet Sooty but in the end the wait was short, only about 5 minutes and she was as thrilled to meet Sooty, as was I!
The show is amazing for kids and Richard really tried to entertain the adults with some puns and jokes which was a nice touch! We all got to sang izzy wizzy let’s get busy and you could see the adults becoming children again!
Daisy talked about the show all the way home and is very much looking forward to returning to see another show!
