I love nut milk and oat milk too but it can become expensive constantly buying it from the shops, and also I like to keep my ingredients to a minimum and know exactly what has gone in! So when this little beauty arrived on my doorstep I was so excited and got to work making myself a glass of oat milk.
Inside the box you will find two glass Kilner beakers. Made to the same excellent quality that you would expect from buying this particular brand, if I have a choice it would always be Kilner because over the years I have found that they never scrimp on quality and their items are always practical, well designed and built to withstand constant use over years of time. This set did not disappoint the high standards which I hold this brand to.
Along with the beakers you receive a silicone cover to be used along side their blender. The blender does not come with this set however you can purchase them from many places, I used my own blender but I will be purchasing theirs because it is built to fit the silicone cover that comes with the set.
Saying that, it can be made without a blender it just takes a little longer and I wanted something to drink right away. It also comes with a plunger to compress and filter the mixture, and lids to seal the jars and keep your drink fresh!
So I threw my ingredients in the blender, a little water, oats, honey, salt, vanilla and half a tea spoon of cocoa and blended it for about five seconds, then I transferred it to the Kilner beaker. I then added more water to fill the beaker and used the plunger to compress then lifted it to encourage mixing of the ingredients. I left it for five minutes in the fridge, you could drink it right away but I like to give the oats a little extra time. There is no need to pre-soak most things like oats so you can use this beauty right away!
Then I pushed down the plunger again and that was it, in less than six minutes my drink was ready and filtered beautifully.
On the sides of the jars all the measurements are there which is really useful for the more complicated recipes (I will try with mango juice next time) and the lids are made to specifically fit these beakers which means they do not leak or let any gases in or out, this keeps the drink fresher for longer.
They were really easy to clean to as they really don’t have many parts to them and no complicated bits to separate or mess with, which is a bonus in a busy family environment.
The only downside if I had to pick one was that I need a bigger one haha! This one is perfect for taking out and about with you, for single or just two glasses of drink, or to add to tea or cereal. If you like to have more of it for a whole glass then I recommend purchasing extra glasses (which I will also be doing). This one though, will be coming to hotels with me and camping where nut or oat drinks can be harder to come across. I might even take it to Spain with me with a bag of rolled oats instead of spending the first evening trying to find somewhere open which sells drinks. Now I will be able to make a lovely drink and settle without the worry. The plunger also means that if the contents settle slightly over night, you only need to re-plunge once and it is mixed.
I give this product 5 out of 5. I really do love it. It is simple, stylish and on trend at the moment, but I love it because of its timeless and practical nature, it just works well, which is what you expect from Kilner.
