The Irish Fairy Door Company Review

Reviewed by Emma Johnston

My children are avid fairy believers, so when asked to review a fairy door from The Irish Fairy Door Company we jumped at the chance. I did a bit of prep work beforehand… suggesting that the girls write a letter to the queen of the fairies (who goes by the name of Kate) to see if we could have a fairy door in order to entice a real fairy to come and live in our house.

A day or so later a parcel arrived in the post. The girls unpacked the parcel and let out squeals of delight when they realised that “Kate” had indeed sent them a fairy door. The handmade wooden door comes in a variety of colours and is beautiful packaged. Also included is a key for the fairy to unlock the door, a contract between the fairy and human host family (to be signed by both parties), a lovely story book explaining exactly what to do with the door and a little notepad to use to write letters to your fairy. The next step is to read the contract and sign it and then find exactly the right place for your door (indoors or out) and wait for your fairy to move in. Once the little key has disappeared then you know your fairy has arrived!! I absolutely love this idea.

Created by life-long friends Niamh Sherwin Barry and Aoife Lawler, along with their husband’s Oisin and Gavin, The Irish Fairy Door Company helps fairies relocate into human homes, classrooms, gardens and woods. Once in play, the creative team at Fairy HQ ensures direct access to Fairy Valley, so the magic can continue long after the fairy has moved in – with ongoing messages, play ideas and stories delivered to children and parents who register their fairy’s name on the website, via email and an app.

So far over 160,000 fairies worldwide have found human homes since the company started almost 2 years ago.

The website is easy to use and navigate around and just full of fairy facts, stories and fairy trails. We loved looking through the fairy facts where we learned that fairies absolutely love raisins, but must not eat cheese puffs as they turn fairies orange!

There are various add-ons that can be purchased from the website such as beautiful vinyl decals to go around your fairy door, washing lines for your fairy to hang their clothes on and door mats starting from a reasonable £3.99.

I would really recommend this product. We have only had a fairy living in our house for a few days so far, but these have been such fun days, full of magic and adventures. My girls are 7 and almost 3, they have spent half term busy making beautiful gifts for our fairy named Candy. I just need to remember to check for letters to Candy each night before bed!!
