The House of Marley No Bounds Sport Bluetooth Speaker Review

Reviewed by David Savage

After a week or so of horrendous weather it is slowly on the turn and hopefully we can get back to enjoying the outdoors, especially our gardens. And while we are in our gardens, most of us like to listen to a little bit of music or the radio.

As summer kicks in, during the day we like to be out in our gardens seeing to the lawns, flowers and plants and during the evenings and weekends we like to sit and chill, enjoying the sunshine, balmy evenings and warmer weather. I like to sit outside and read a good book while the kids play, but sometimes like to stream music from my phone. Phone speakers are OK, but not great outside, especially if you have a few friends around, so a speaker that you can take outside that has a good sound is a fantastic idea.

With so many portable speakers on the market, where do you start? Obviously one that sounds good is the best place to start, but one that looks good and one that is made from responsibly sourced products would be even better – and the No Bounds Sport Bluetooth Speaker from The House of Marley delivers all on points!

Firstly, a bit about The House of Marley. Everyone has heard of Bob Marley – one of the pioneers of reggae? Well, The House of Marley headphones and speakers are created by Bob Marley’s children. The brand is built on the principles of superior quality, earth-friendliness and a commitment to global charitable causes. All House of Marley products are consciously crafted from mindfully sourced materials, including FSC certified woods, solid bamboo, consciously harvested cork, non-toxic silicone and Marley’s own signature blend of REWIND™ up-cycled fabrics made from organic cotton, reclaimed hemp and recycled plastic bottles.

I received the No Bounds Sport Bluetooth speaker in grey (but it is also available in blue or black). With so many portable speakers on the market, what makes this one any different?

Well it is a portable Bluetooth speaker that provides 10w (2 x 5w) 360° sound from its speakers (2 x 38mm Woofer / 2 x Passive Radiators), so no matter where you are around it you get a full crisp sound experience. The volume control mechanism is neat, you just twist the top rotating dial to adjust the sound levels. There are 3 discreet buttons on top for play, forwards and backwards (which work with mp3 and YouTube videos). It is dustproof and waterproof with an IP67 certification and apparently floats (I haven’t tried this, but it has a cork base which would give it buoyancy). It boasts a 12-hour battery life with 2 hours charge time @ 5V1A. And if that wasn’t enough, the whole thing looks very stylish.

Another great feature that I love, that probably doesn’t seem like much but is something I haven’t before on other speakers that I have used, is that it has stash storage compartment for the USB charging cable! The cork base twists off and the cable can be safely stored inside. A simple idea but one that is extremely useful and a good design, and waterproof.

If one 360° surround speaker isn’t enough, it can be paired with another No Bounds Sport to provide deep stereo sound from a single source, using wireless dual speaker pairing.

The House of Marley also use recycled, organic and renewable materials with their Regrind Cork (renewable, biodegradable and 100% natural), Rewind Fabric (weaved from recycled materials to create a durable, high quality product. It is constructed from a distinctive blend of 30% reclaimed organic cotton, 30% reclaimed hemp and 40% recycled PET) and Recyclable Aluminium. Every purchase will help one tree.

Overall, this is a good quality, stylish portable speaker with a long battery life and fast charge time. The sound fills a room quite well and is of good quality (sometimes it can be a little bit tinny at the highest volume, depending on what is playing).

The design has been well thought out and uses environmentally friendly materials in its construction. This is a great little speaker for garden parties, camping or just chilling by the pool!
