Already being a big fan of The Happy Puzzle Company, I was delighted to get the opportunity to review ‘Jigraphy: 2023/24 Football Map of the UK & Ireland’. My previous experience of The Happy Puzzle Company is that of interesting, fun and intellectually stimulating challenges and puzzles, and the football Jigraphy did not disappoint in the slightest.
‘Jigraphy’ is an ingenious concept – combining that of a puzzle with geography and, in this particular jigsaw, a particular interest in football teams and the specific location of their home ground.
The puzzle itself is contained within a sturdy cardboard box measuring 35cm x 19cm x 3.4cm. For a busy family a strong box is important as nowadays, I find so many puzzles and games are packaged in flimsy boxes which fall apart after several months, and the last thing you want with a jigsaw puzzle is for a piece to go missing! This jigraphy is a 300 piece jigsaw puzzle and each piece is approximately 3cm x 3.5cm. Once completed, the puzzle size is approximately 66cm x 50cm – important to know so that you can make sure you have enough space on a table or a large enough puzzle mat.
Football fans will be kept enamoured with this puzzle for hours as it does not just include one football league, it includes the locations of 148 football stadiums – those of every team in England’s Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two, as well as Scotland’s Premiership League and Championship League and the top divisions in Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. This ensures that every football fan is certain to have their favourite team on the map, as well as the opportunity to learn about the locations of other football stadiums in the UK and Ireland.
The jigraphy puzzle does take some time to complete, but that is the fun of it! Some puzzle pieces are very tricky, being all green in colour, but some of the pieces include small, coloured footballs on which, when you check the key for the league, may help you with their location. On the jigraphy box, it does state that if you get ‘really stuck’, you can check a website for a solution. For the purposes of the review, I found that the website helps you by corresponding the tiny number on the picture of the football on the puzzle piece with the name of the football club, their league and the name of the stadium – the information of which would help you put the puzzle piece in the correct position on the jigraphy.
The ‘Jigraphy: 2023/24 Football Map of the UK & Ireland’ is a good-quality jigsaw and would be an ideal gift for Christmas for any child or adult who has a passion for football. Alternatively, the jigraphy puzzle would also be perfect for a collaborative calming Christmas activity and allow special moments together for a child and adult over the busy festive period.
