This evening my daughter, 13 year old granddaughter and myself decided to visit The Brache, a Beefeater Restaurant in Luton which offers the Orange Cow menu.
This restaurant has been recently refurbished. Gone are the family booths with the high sides just as you enter the restaurant, instead the remaining booths are more open with lower sides and to my mind much more friendly. There were lots of tables, but they had created an illusion of space with the open plan arrangement. The ground floor is on a two levels. Whilst I didn’t go upstairs, a member of staff told me those booths had gone as well.
The staff were very friendly but efficient at the same time. The person who greeted us and showed us to our table told us that the car park was being improved to take more cars as the hotel was being extended.
The restaurant was extremely busy especially for a Wednesday evening. It struck me that there was lots of chatter and laughter, it was a happy place where people were enjoying a meal out whether it be with friends, family or for a birthday party.
Our waiter Callum B was pleasant, friendly and extremely helpful. He happily brought an extra BBQ dip for my daughter’s deep fried mushrooms, replenished the ketchup for my granddaughter and made sure we were supplied with plenty of diet Pepsi as it is refillable. My daughter and granddaughter both tell me their mushrooms were delicious. I had prawn cocktail which had plenty of prawns and dressing and was served with two small pieces of bread and a slab of butter. We also decided to have a tear and share garlic bread between us, when it came there were three long pieces; I couldn’t believe that was one portion, we could not manage it all!
My rump steak, which I had with chunky chips and a peppercorn sauce was lean and tender, as was my daughter’s sirloin steak. Our steaks were served with a side salad, a flat mushroom and half a grilled tomato, neither of us could manage to finish all the chips!! My granddaughter, who even at the age of 13 often resorts to chicken nuggets and chips from the children’s menu, chose a burger with bacon and cheese, without the bacon! She had this with skinny fries plus an extra portion of fries on the side. She really enjoyed her burger and managed to eat the majority of the fries along with copious amounts of ketchup.
When it came to choosing a dessert, daughter decided she couldn’t manage one, but granddaughter chose a chocolate brownie with ice cream and I decided on profiteroles with extra chocolate sauce and ice cream. Delicious!
I can thoroughly recommend the newly refurbished Brache as a restaurant for a family gathering or a meal with a partner, for its welcoming and happy atmosphere together with delicious reasonably priced food. We ate from a special menu available from 6.30pm onwards, but the normal menu was also available. This restaurant was extremely popular tonight!
