A bit of history on Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers. They were established in 2009 in Edinburgh, Gordon wanted to bring back a higher quality of kilt and highland wear. His first store is situated on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. In 2016, Gordon set up Edinburgh’s Kilt and Highland Wear Academy to promote ‘higher standards’ within the industry. Then in 2017, he opened his second store on St Mary’s Street.’ GNK (for short), tartan has been seen all over the world and has been worn by many famous faces, for instance, Ewan McGregor, at Edinburgh Fringe, also, Judy Murray, Anton Du Beke, Ross King, JJ Chambers and Hamza Yassi on the BBC’s Strictly. So, having delved into their history, I was intrigued by how a partnership with Xbox would work. I knew it would be of excellent quality, but how much would it scream Xbox?
I should not have had any doubts; the Xbox tartan scarf is a beautiful collaboration.
The scarf looks very stylish, it is lovely and warm, and it is also a nice length. I do like a long scarf. It does look quite masculine; however, I think it is suitable for everyone. Being made of 100% Lamb’s wool makes it really soft and hard-wearing, it is a beautiful quality scarf. I really like the black and different shades of green in the tartan; it represents Xbox’s iconic symbol and colours without looking childish, cheap, or over the top. It has been so well thought out and made, it screams quality. I am really impressed with the look and quality of the scarf. GNK tries its hardest to use locally sourced material and talent, which I really like. The actual tartan was made by Lochcarron of Scotland, who are leaders in the industry, again ensuring the quality of the scarf.
The Xbox Tartan scarf will make a lovely birthday, anniversary or coming up to the festive season a delightful Christmas present, especially if they enjoy the outdoors. Due to the partnership with Xbox, the scarf will also appeal to the Xbox gaming community, which is a massive market. The GNK Xbox Tartan scarf would make a really nice and different gift for any Xbox gamer.
The GNK Xbox tartan scarf is something that I would happily purchase for family members. My husband loves it; he is not a gamer; however, he loves the colours, the feel and quality of the scarf, and it really does suit him. It looks good with a casual look, but also looks just as stylish with a dress coat.
The GNK Xbox partnership range also includes a bucket hat, a cross-over bag, a wallet and a key ring, all with the Xbox tartan.
The GNK Xbox tartan scarf is retailing at £35.00, which I think is for the exclusivity, and the quality is a really good price. I would happily pay that price for the quality, the only thing I would have liked is for it to have been boxed, especially if I was giving it as a gift. Mine arrived in tissue paper, maybe because I was just reviewing it, or maybe because they are being conscious of sustainability. Looking at their ethos of keeping everything close to home and repair rather than replace, it is probably a sustainability issue, which I respect.
Delivery costs are free if you spend over £150.00; under £150.00, the cost is £4.95 for Royal Mail tracked service.
Due to their sustainability ethos, quality and price, I give the GNK Xbox Tartan Scarf 5/5
Rating: 5/5
