Edward Scissorhands at The Lowry, Manchester Review
Edward Scissorhands

Originally based on the 1990’s film Edward Scissorhands by Tim Burton the theatre adaption really captured the magical fairytale style of the film.
As we arrived at the Lowry Theatre we were given our tickets and a program and then directed to the correct entrance by the helpful staff and found our seats with no problems.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the show as I hadn’t done any research. Although there was no speaking at all I think they managed to portray the emotions very well with body language and hand gestures.
I was pleasantly surprise by the show as I’m a big fan of the original movie and didn’t think it would live up to my expectations. I was wrong. It was beyond and above what I imagined and I really enjoyed the whole experience.
Throughout the show they had snow falling, smoke and minor explosions, which all added to the experience.
Dominic North, who played the role of Edward, used a lot of the characteristics from the original film in how he moved, walked and acted which pleasantly surprised me and added a lot of personality.
Not only was it visually amazing, it also had some very funny moments like when Edward chased a poodle across the stage attempting to cut its hair. The crowd were clapping and cheering.
During the interval we were directed to the circle bar where a selection of drinks and snacks were available.
As the performance came to an end, the snow fell into the stage then suddenly fell onto the crowd which gave a magical fairy tale type experience.
Overall I was very pleased with the whole performance and the brilliant service of the staff at the Lowry Theatre, as well as the outstanding experience of the show.
Tickets cost from £29 to £41 (includes £2 booking fee).
