Don’t Wait Up is a BBC sitcom that ran for six series from 1983-1990. It is about 2 doctors: Dr Tom Latimer, an NHS GP, and his father Dr Toby Latimer, a Harley Street Consultant. Tom has split from his wife, Helen, and Toby has announced he his divorcing tom’s mother, Angela, and moves in with Tom.

Disc One features all 7 episodes from Series One:  Tom has just divorced his wife Helen who lives next door and rents the surgery to Tom. This is a constant cause of friction creating humorous situations all at Tom’s expense. His dad turns up at his flat and announces that he is divorcing his wife Angela of 32 years and asks to stay with Tom at his flat. Toby is not used to doing things for himself and ends up treating Tom like his wife making him a terrible flat mate. Tom is desperate to try and get his parents back together. This series ends with Angela walking out on Toby after they went away for the weekend.

Disc Two features all 6 episodes from Series Two: Continues from where Series One ended with Toby and Tom still at the hotel after Angela and Madeleine walked out on them on a weekend away. After yet another row Tom moves out and moves back in with his mother. Tom’s mother comes to work at the surgery causing problems at home and work. This series ends with Toby messing up his reconciliation with Angela again and Tom and Toby setting sail for America.

Overall, an enjoyable sitcom with some good humour especially the miscommunication between father and son. I found it very easy to watch and a good way to pass the time on these horrible rainy days we have had recently. Tony Britton and Nigel Havers work very well together as father and son. Recommended.
