With two young children, who burst into song at any given – and usually inopportune – moment, I was really pleased to be offered the opportunity to review the Toyrific Mi-Mic MMC3 Bluetooth Karaoke Speaker, Finally, a way to bring some order to the musical chaos!
I didn’t have to wait long at all, the item arrived within a couple of days. It literally landed on the doorstep in its box with an address label applied, with no outer carton, so the box was a bit bashed about from transit. If I had been buying this to give as a gift, I’d be a bit disappointed to be handing over a battered box, so would hope that ordinarily, it would be sent out with some packaging to protect it.
I opened the box and inside everything was in good working order and no signs of any damage. There were 2 small wireless microphones, a Bluetooth speaker, a charging cable and some simple instructions to get us started.
It was really easy to connect to the speaker using my smart phone and we were up and running straight away. The speaker can connect to any Bluetooth 5.0 compatible devices including smart phones, tablets and computers, so can be used pretty much anywhere. It has a 10m Bluetooth range and you can play your favourite music through popular streaming services such as Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music.
The speaker is a compact size, lightweight with a handle attached, so it can be easily carried around to parties or into different rooms in the house. When switched on, it has 12 flashing coloured lights which make the item a great addition for a party. I think the item looks great, simple yet smart and would stores away easily, when not in use.
Due to the fact that the item is portable and wireless, it has the versatility of being used both indoors and outdoors, so can be used all year round.
The speaker is powered using the supplied charging cable rather than relying on having to install batteries, so it requires a bit of planning to ensure it is fully charged — a process that takes around five hours for the speaker. Then each microphone also needs to be charged individually (approx. 2 hours each), and with only one cable included, staying organised is key to making sure everything’s powered up and ready to go when you’ve scheduled a sing-along. Once you’re ready, you should expect 8 hours of play time, so there’s no limitations in that respect! There is a note in the instructions, to make sure you unplug everything after the charging is complete, to ensure that excessive charging doesn’t affect the battery life.
The microphones are a great size for little hands to hold and not too heavy either. The volume of singing is controlled using the buttons on the microphone. There are 12 voice effects included, which gave my children endless pleasure, although was somewhat unnerving, when they disappeared off into the lounge and turned the speaker on themselves! They really enjoyed the boom and the echo functions, which gave their singing a live arena affect (I hope the neighbours weren’t too bothered by it!)
There is a slot to insert an SD card and the speaker will automatically detect and play the music. You can also use an audio cable to attach the speaker directly to the audio source device and can switch to AUX mode, by simply pressing the button. At the time of the review, I haven’t tested the speaker in either of these ways.
What I especially appreciated was how this speaker encourages children to build confidence. It’s something I lacked at their age, and giving them the chance to sing freely at home, surrounded by friends or family, will definitely stand them in good stead.
With Christmas just around the corner, this speaker would make a fantastic gift for the children in your life. It’s guaranteed to bring some energetic fun to that quiet lull after Christmas dinner! My children had a brilliant time using it, and we’d happily recommend it to friends and family alike.
The recommended age for the speaker is 6 years+, which I think is appropriate. My 4 year old enjoyed her own rendition of Let it Go, with a little help from me, but she wasn’t able to operate it herself.
The RRP of the speak is £39.99, although is currently on sale for £21.99, which I think is really great value for what you get. You can also get 10% off if you sign up to emails at www.toyrific.co.uk and also free delivery on every order, which is a massive bonus in my eyes.
