Connetix Rainbow Transport Pack (50 piece) Review

I first became familiar with Connetix® a few years ago when my friend was raving about the enjoyment both her son and daughter got from playing with the tiles. I was therefore thrilled to get the opportunity to discover the Connetix® Rainbow Transport Set and share the joy of construction with the children in my life.

The Connetix® Rainbow Transport Set comes neatly packaged in a sturdy, brown recyclable box. There is a thin cardboard sleeve on the outside of the box which denotes that this is the ‘Rainbow Transport Pack’ and shows a picture of one of the modes of transport which can be built. Within the box measuring 31cm x 21.5cm x 9cm, the 50 Connetix® pieces are tightly packed inside. The box contains 47 building pieces which are either triangular, square or rectangular in shape. This set also contains three wheeled bases – two of the same size, and one which is slightly longer. I particularly liked the fact that because there was more than one wheeled base, more than one child could play with the set at a time in either shared play or individual play. The Connetix® set also contains a 43 page ‘Inspiration Book’ containing colour photographs of the range of items which can be created using Connetix® tiles, and the two double-page spreads on transport certainly gave us the stimulus and encouragement to get building very quickly!

Each Connetix® piece is made from ‘non-toxic ABS plastic that is BPA and Phthalate free’ and is extremely durable. The strength of the magnets of each of the pieces was notably impressive! Children love to build structures and there would be nothing more demoralising than the ‘work of art’ tumbling down due to weak bonds – luckily, with this play set, there was no concern of that happening! The Connetix® pieces are easily manipulated by little hands and the bright colours make them very appealing to children of all ages.

Although the Connetix® Rainbow Transport Set is quite heavy, it would be a great play set to take when driving to visit friends or relatives for the day as it can keep children engaged for long periods of time as they try to build different modes of transport of differing sizes and shapes.

When choosing toys and games, I am always drawn to play sets which will inspire creativity and allow for opportunities of problem solving and perseverance. The Connetix® Rainbow Transport Set fulfilled these criteria, and also allowed for the children (and may I also add adults!) to use their imagination, whilst allowing for some interesting conversations and collaborative moments. I will certainly be adding to my Connetix® collection by buying more sets – the connetixtiles.com website has certainly ignited my excitement to add to the set!

I will definitely be recommending the Connetix® Rainbow Transport Set to others as either a suitable birthday, Easter or summer holiday gift as it is a fun activity set which encourages the development of so many of the ‘STEM’ skills we hear so much about or as Connetix® state – the ‘STEAM’ skills – ‘Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics’. Who wouldn’t want the children in their life to benefit from those skills whilst also having a lot of fun!
