Walking in the air – The feeling you have after watching The Snowman!
On Wednesday the 24th of January I took my niece and daughter to see the production of The Snowman at the Theatre Royal in Brighton.
The Theatre Royal is set in the middle of the city with access to public transport and car parks within five minutes walking distance from the venue.
It is what I would call a very traditional theatre, which is what I love the most about it. From its decor inside, the appearance outside and the smart uniforms of the staff who work there. The staff are friendly, helpful and very polite.
The only downside I can find with this theatre is that there aren’t many public toilets so there is usually a big queue during the interval.
The show itself took a little while to get going but once it did it didn’t disappoint. The Snowman is such an Iconic story, one even I remember through my own childhood.
This production was well put together and thought out. The cast were great, in sync, kept the audience engaged and on the edge of their seats.
I loved catching my daughters face throughout. The look of wonder and awe on her face as she got immersed in the story and the show was lovely. The expressions on her face were priceless as she watched the Snowman and the young boy fly through the air effortlessly it seemed, to the beautiful music and of the Iconic ‘Walking in the air’.
My daughter particularly liked the dancing fruit and giggled throughout this section. For me it was the ensemble of the different Snowmen characters. The Scottish and Fred Astaire Snowmen being my favourites.
My niece loved the end, but not because it was finished. There was a lovely addition to the end that I don’t want to give away.
The Snowman is a truly heart-warming show with a beautifully crafted set, intricate costumes and a very talented cast. You will leave with a smile on your face.
