I was extremely excited to see Wicked at the Bristol Hippodrome as I had wanted to see it for a very long time and I wasn’t disappointed, the whole performance was fantastic and everyone in the theatre was captivated by the wonderful performance.
Based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 Wizard of Oz spinoff novel ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz. The story starts at the beginning before the story of the Wizard of Oz began, where it asks the question “Are people born wicked or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?”
It all begins by showing you how Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) was brought into the world and how she and Glinda the Good first met.
Glinda (Emily Tierney), a very popular girl, and Elphaba (Ashleigh Gray), a very green and misunderstood girl, become unlikely friends and the story takes you through the highs and lows of their friendship at university. They then travel to the Emerald City where they go to see the Wizard of Oz and everything starts to change for Elphaba and Glinda.
Glinda and Elphaba are a fantastic duo and played their parts perfectly. The performance had some great comical moments that really did make you laugh out loud and was full of great songs that were sung to perfection.
The show had everything from some very realistic flying monkeys to levitating witches and kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what was going to happen next.
The whole stage looked extremely impressive with its clockwork set and the dragon hanging above the centre of the stage it had everyone talking about it.
Wicked has won over 100 international awards and you can see why. I loved everything about the performance and was transfixed by the story from start to finish.
Wicked is a must see for anyone and I will be recommending it to family and friends. Book it now to see for yourself – you will not be disappointed!
Bristol Hippodrome is located in the centre of Bristol and is easily accessible by public transport. There is also a large NCP car park located a few streets away for those travelling by car.
The theatre is a lovely historical building and although it is old it still looks lovely and grand and has a wonderfully warm ambience and an atmosphere filled with excitement. There are a couple of bars inside the theatre and everywhere we went it was lovely and clean and the staff were very helpful and polite at all times.
Tickets cost from £20 to £75 (plus £4 transaction fee).
Wicked is at the Bristol Hippodrome until 21 March 2015. For more information or to book tickets click here or call the box office on 0844 871 3012.
