This Helly Hansen soft rib beanie is probably the best beanie I have ever had the privilege to wear. I chose the mellow grey colour which could also be classed as stone in my opinion. It is really easy to co-ordinate with most colour schemes as it is so neutral. The beanie also comes in black but other beanie designs on the Helly Hansen website come in an array of colours, both soft pastels and more bold standard colours such as black, grey, brown and cream.
It is super thick with a double folder cuff which can be opened out into a classic beanie without a cuff. The HH logo is embroidered in on the cuff to give a contemporary feel so it could be used either for work or more casual wear.
It is unisex but does come up quite big on a woman but for me this is great. I hate it when it’s cold and your beanie rides up to expose your ears which definitely does not happen here. If, however, you have a small head then it may well prove a little too big for you as it only comes in one size.
The material is baby soft so it has the feel of really soft wool but in actual fact it is mainly polyester so you can wash it. In addition, it is fully recyclable too.
I wore it to the gym, and it really did keep me toastie warm, but I had to take it off in the gym as it was just too hot to wear inside.
Most beanies I buy are probably not as expensive as this one which sells at £35 but you can definitely tell it is of really excellent quality. I do actually have trainers and gym wear in the Helly Hanson ranges, so I am already aware of the ranges. My husband has some of their golf range of clothing too.
Helly Hansen are based in Oslo so accustomed to harsh and very cold climates and you can see this has had an influence on their designs throughout their ranges. Helly Hansen was established in 1877 and has been a premium go-to brand for high-quality durable and professional-grade outdoor wear for hiking, skiing, sailing and other sports and activities that require protection from the elements.
Whilst I love it and it will be a fantastic addition to my winter outdoor kit; I have had to lend it out to my sister who spotted it and is off snowboarding on boxing day. In all fairness I will not need it in January as I am off to Australia, but I have purchased one of the caps in the range for my holiday instead. I will be reclaiming my beanie on my return at the end of January though.
