I was delighted to be asked to review wagamama in Plymouth, I have never visited before and so glad we did. wagamama is a Japanese restaurant and noodle bar. The restaurant is set in the Royal William Yard right next to the marina with views of the harbour. The restaurant is fresh looking, modern and comfortable. There is a cocktail bar and has tables of different sizes to accommodate different size groups.

We visited bank holiday Sunday and were worried it may be busy but were shown to a table immediately and our waitress introduced herself quickly. Our drinks orders were taken quickly I had raspberry and apple juice and my husband had an apple cider. My juice was very refreshing.

There is a large choice on the menu so we started with a mixed platter to share. This was very tasty and full of flavour. When we ordered our mains our waitress explained the food would come out quickly and maybe not at the same time. My husband’s Chicken Kare Lomen, which he said was very nice came out first. He waited about 5 minutes for mine to come out but the manager came over and said to him we encourage you to start eating as soon your meal comes out and that mine wouldn’t be long. This was something we didn’t expect as we’d only eaten together when out for meal before, however my husband had almost finished his meal before mine had come out. The manager was very apologetic about my wait and explained that my meal had been dropped by the chef so had to be re-cooked. I couldn’t fault my main meal and it was worth the wait. I had Yasai Katsu Curry. This was breadcrumbed vegetables with a curry sauce and rice. This was amazing very fresh and full of lots of flavour and lovely ingredients. Although we were both very full we couldn’t resist a dessert, we tried a new dessert called Mix It Up Mochi Ice Cream, which was a combination of all three Mochi flavours. These are rice wrapped ice cream coconut, raspberry and toasted sesame. These finished a great meal in a perfect way.

Although we had a small hiccup I would highly recommend wagamama, you really do get brilliant Japanese food in a relaxed atmosphere, with a fantastic service from the staff. I am already looking forward to going back and trying the cocktails once I’ve had my baby.

Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday throughout the summer the Plymouth wagamama have a DJ so you can join them for cocktails, noodles and music.

My overall Rating is 5 out of 5, we were really pleased with our visit and the menu costs were what you would expect to pay on a meal out.

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
