The Edge

After my daughter and I had our private ski lesson on Sunday 8thJanuary 2012 we decided to enjoy a bite to eat in The Edge, the café bar situated on the top floor of The Snow Centre.

The Edge Café Bar can accommodate 150 seated guests and overlooks the slopes so if skiing isn’t for you or you need somewhere warm, dry and comfortable to wait for your friends or family with a drink and/or food then head here. Throughout the week, they have specials on food. On the week we visited, the special were as follows:

Wednesday
Curry Night – 6pm – 9pm from just £5.95

Friday
Fish & Chips Special – 12pm – 5pm just £4.95

Sunday
Roast Dinner Buffet – Served from 12pm just £6.95 for adults & £4.50 for juniors

For all the sports fanatics out there, The Edge Café Bar also has several large television screens so you can watch live Sky Sports, particularly football.

When we entered The Edge, we were greeted by a warm, friendly, comfortable atmosphere and even though it was around tea time, it wasn’t too busy so we could easily find a seat. My daughter decided the best seat was a settee situated next to one of the huge windows that overlook the ski slopes so this is where we sat. The table we sat down at was clean, tidy and had a food menu and a wine menu conveniently placed on the table. When we decided to look at the food menu, both my daughter and I were very pleasantly surprised how much variety of food there was. The style of the menu is very much home from home with all the pub favourites such as nachos, jacket potatoes, soup, scampi, fish and chips, salad, sausage and mash, chilli con carne, stuffed butternut squash, gammon, burgers, pasta and pizza and that’s just for the adults!!! For the children, there is a specific kids menu so they can choose macaroni cheese, tomato pasta, cheese and tomato pizza, sausages, chicken crunchies, star fishes and beef burger and all children’s meals include a Five Alive carton drink.

After both of us had finished salivating over the menu I decided to go for the cheddar cheese and bacon burger whilst my daughter opted for the cheese and tomato pizza so I approached the bar to order our food and drinks. The bar area was very clean, the drinks fridges were well stocked and the staff were exceptionally pleasant. At the point you order your food, you are asked where you are sat and the staff allocate you a table number (a wooden spoon with a number on it) which is to be placed on your table so staff can deliver your food to you whilst you relax and enjoy the view. Prices are exceptionally reasonable……. a large glass of wine, two lemonades and our food came to just under £20.00 which I thought was a real bargain!!!

Off I toddled back to our nice, comfortable settee with my table number in hand where we watched others on the ski slope for a bit whilst discussing our own experience of skiing and reading through the information our instructor had provided us with.

After around 15 minutes, our food, cutlery and condiments appeared which I thought was a very reasonable time. Our food was piping hot, there was plenty of it and my daughter even told me her pizza was the best pizza in the world ever!!! (We have visited The Edge twice now so she can eat the pizza). Although I couldn’t eat all of my food, this was no reflection of the quality or taste, it appears to be that my eyes are bigger than my belly.

Once we had finished our meals, our server took away our plates, table number and condiments, wiped down the table and left us to continue with our drinks. We did not feel rushed in the slightest and cannot fault the service provided by both the bar staff and the waiting staff.

Overall, we thought The Edge Café Bar was great as it has something for everyone and is very reasonably priced. Whether it’s a Costa Coffee, a breakfast pastry, a quick bite or a main meal or an alcoholic beverage you are after, The Edge Café Bar will cater to every taste. Oh and the views of the slopes are amazing so it’s a must for anyone whether you ski or not. I know we will definitely be visiting again.
