Treetop Adventure Golf Manchester Review

Printworks, Manchester

My son is 14 and like most teenagers it takes a lot to prise him away from his electronic games. I do try and find activities that we can do as a family at weekends but it is hard coming up with new ideas, especially in the winter months when the weather isn’t great. I was really pleased when I heard that we were going to review Treetop Adventure Golf in Manchester because it is something we have never done before and it also gave us the opportunity to have a day out in Manchester.

Treetop Adventure Golf is located in the Printworks complex in the centre of Manchester, the lovely old building used to be a printing house (hence the name!) and after being empty for a number of years was converted into an entertainment complex in 2000. We parked just outside the city centre and walked in through the Christmas markets which made a lovely start to the day. On their website it says there is no need to book, we turned up just before 11am and it was quiet but we did notice that it got busier later on. There is a nice bar/cafe area so if you do need to wait you can have a drink or snack whilst you are waiting. Another thoughtful touch is the provision of lockers by the entrance which meant we had somewhere secure to keep our coats whilst we played our game.

When we arrived, we were welcomed by a friendly member of staff who explained what we needed to do and recommended that we started with the Tropical Trail first. We were pleasantly surprised to find that if you arrive before midday you can play two courses for the price of one which was a real bonus for us. The complex has two 18 hole courses available, we played the Tropical Trail first, which took us through the rainforest canopy, putting the balls through a number of jungle themed obstacles. Some of the holes were more difficult than others but this just added to the fun. There was a mix of ages there when we were playing and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The jungle atmosphere is maintained with sound effects, running water and music in the background. On some of the holes the sound effects are interactive, making suitable comments when missing a particular shot for instance. We were given a scorecard so it was easy to keep track of the scores and added a bit of competition for us.

At the end of the course there is a 19th hole where each player gets the chance to win a free round, my husband was the only one who managed to get a hole in one and was rewarded with a  voucher for a free round in the future!

In our opinion Treetop Adventure Golf have got the food side spot on. The bar and cafe looked attractive and everything was spotless. They serve a good range of drinks, including fruit juices, soft drinks and tea and coffee and you can also purchase a wide range of alcoholic drinks including a nice selection of cocktails and mocktails. It was a bit early in the morning for cocktails but I can imagine if you were visiting with friends then a few cocktails would be nice.

There is a decent sized eating area with plenty of tables and it was good to see that there were plenty of highchairs stacked up at the side of the cafe. It used to frustrate me when our boys were younger that family friendly places only ever had a couple of highchairs but Treetop Adventure golf have obviously thought about this and are prepared for plenty of families. The cafe is called Pizza Cabana and as you would expect from the name they mainly sell pizzas. With a choice of eight pizzas they were very reasonably priced between £5.25 and £6.95. As well as the normal pizzas there are a couple of Christmas themed pizzas to get you in the Christmas mood. If you don’t fancy pizza you can also get a bacon sandwich or brie and red onion sandwich for £3. For those with a sweet tooth there was a nice selection of cakes to buy.

I was very impressed with the quality of the food, I have been to many family attractions where the food tends to be overpriced and very poor quality but this wasn’t the case at Treetop Adventure Golf. My son and husband both chose the pepperoni pizza whilst I went for a ham one. They were freshly prepared for us and absolutely delicious, cooked on a crispy thin base and presented on an enamel tray which added nicely to the treetops / jungle theme.

I have to say I was really impressed how clean and tidy everything was, even my husband commented on how clean the toilets were. The staff obviously take great pride in the venue and it is a lovely place to visit. During the day it’s a great place for families but I can see that in the evening it would be a fun event for a group of mates with the bar area and decent food making it a great place to meet after work. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be visiting again.

The whole experience was brilliant, we had a great time playing each hole and competing against each other and my son is already asking when we can return!
