I was very lucky to be invited to Theatre by the Lake’s first ever “The Lakeside Club” members event, the guest speaker was Alice Fearn, a West End performer with local roots and connections, her many credits include Glinda’s mother in both of the Wicked movies and most recently played Heidi Hansen in Dear Evan Hansen which toured the UK. I was surprised to hear she was the singer in the Staysure TV advert, something I have heard many times.
In a relaxed, informal setting Alice gave us a very open and honest insight into her career, how it all started, where it has taken her, what it involves and where she would like it to take her in the future. One thing she talked about was how she is constantly thinking about taking care of her voice, I had no idea that air conditioning was so bad for it, something that Alice stressed was, although you have to have the talent, timing and luck plays a big part.
I think it was purely coincidently that Alice’s last anecdote was about Dame Judy Dench who is the president of and has long been involved with Theatre by the Lake.
We ended with a Q@A session which Alice was so good at, she answered all the questions and added a little bit more, it was a lovely touch when she credited her parents as being her biggest inspiration and giving her a fantastic work ethic. I found her so warm and open it was like having a chat with a friend.
There were refreshments served before and after the talk which was a chance for all members to chat and get to know each other.
This is a free event for members only and after listening to feedback from current members Theatre by the Lake are planning on holding more events like this throughout the year some at weekends and some during the week to fit in with everyone’s life.

This is a theatre to be proud of, and you can be proud that you have played a small part in its success.
It’s come a long way since it started as the blue box theatre, a fold up touring theatre that set up home in the lakeside carpark when it became unfit to tour, with the right support who knows how far it can go?
All memberships last 12 months from the date of purchase.
Memberships can also be bought as a gift, what a thoughtful gift this would be for any theatre lover and it would last all year.
