Gifted by Donald Hounam Review

Reviewed by Julie Leousis
Gifted is about a fifteen year old boy sorcerer called Frank who is working for the police force helping to solve crimes.
The book was initially difficult to keep up with the character and the theme, however by page 25 I was hooked. The use of imagery throughout the storyline ensures the reader is engrossed into the atmosphere of Frank’s Life. You can almost smell the surroundings and feel the environment which the author describes.
The twist of the storyline, though not unfathomable ensured the reader is constantly questioning the next move and willing the characters to make better decisions. The writer creates empathy and care for the character in the book and this certainly spurs the reader on to find out what happens to him.
I completed the book over one weekend and loved it. I was unable to put it down and had to drag myself away to cook the dinner. The book has definitely made me want to read more and I will be searching out the sequel to Gifted very soon!
Overall this is a good read, I would recommend reading especially if you like a crime story with a mythical twist.
