Who doesn’t enjoy a slice of cake! It was an absolute treat to receive a Cake Card from Sponge through the post this week; it is not often an edible delight is delivered through the letterbox!
The Cake Card was contained within a 100% recyclable and biodegradable cardboard box measuring 24cm by 15.8cm by 3.4cm, thin enough to fit through most letterboxes. The fact that the Cake Card fits through the letterbox means that you can be reassured that that the recipient will not miss the delivery if they are not at home, something I often worry about when sending a gift by post.
On opening the outside box, you are greeted with a lovely message, ‘A little something to make you smile’ on the inside cover, written on a bright, sunny, yellow background. The message on the yellow cardboard was an instant mood-booster and that was not even the Cake Card! Lying inside the outer packaging was the Cake Card itself. The Cake Card that I received said, ‘Have a great day’ but there are a number of cards to choose from on the website to suit your reason for sending the gift, and you even have the option to upload your own image to the front of the card if you prefer.
On opening the Cake Card, the left-hand side of the package contained the typed handcrafted message chosen on ordering. On the right-hand side of the Cake Card were two cake slices contained within the cardboard Cake Card box. The cake slices were securely packaged within the cardboard box, and I felt comfortable that it would be difficult to damage the cakes in transit.
The two cake slices that I received were the Chocolate Slice and the Lemon Drizzle Slice but there are several different flavours to choose from when ordering on the website, including gluten free and vegan cake slices. The cake slices were of a substantial size (10cm x 8cm x 2.3cm) and packaged lying of a sheet of thin cardboard within a plastic covering. The cardboard backing contained the ingredients and nutritional information.
Both cake slices were delicious and incredibly moist, something I was slightly sceptical about when I knew that the Cake Card was on its way. However, I needn’t have worried as both cake slices tasted delicious and fresh. The Lemon Drizzle Slice was very lemony and had a tasty layer of lemon buttercream running through the centre. The Chocolate Slice was perfect for me as a chocoholic and a lover of buttercream as it had two layers of buttercream – one chocolatey caramel tasting layer through the centre and a white, vanilla tasting layer on the top. The cakes are guaranteed to stay fresh for seven days but I dived straight in to enjoy the cakes – I cannot imagine many people would have the cakes stored for a week!
If you are wanting to send a birthday, anniversary, get well soon, Mother’s Day, Easter or general ‘thinking of you’ gift through the post, I can thoroughly recommend a Sponge Cake Card. The Cake Card is guaranteed to bring a smile to the recipient’s face, and I will certainly be ordering Cake Cards as gifts in the future.
