I was fortunate enough to be asked to review Dr Jackson’s 04 Coconut Melt. I had never used any Dr Jackson’s skincare products before, so I was excited to give it a try. The product arrived in a small brown cardboard box, which had a very natural feel to it, in fact it is packaged in compostable packaging, with no plastic wrapping, which is brilliant in the current climate crisis.
I liked the packaging from the point of view that it was immediately clear what the product was; a multi-purpose balm, which is 100% organic, not tested on animals, vegan and suitable for all genders. However, the writing on the back of the box detailing ingredients, directions, product details and cautionary notes was very small and due to the rustic appearance of the cardboard, slightly obscured. This may be due to receiving the travel size to try and perhaps the regular size product packaging would be easier to read.

Inside the box I found a small pot of balm and a further information leaflet, but again the writing was very small! I thought the product looked great, it was a glass jar, with a shiny black lid. When I opened the pot, I was immediately hit by the delicious smell of coconut oil, which is the only ingredient (100% coconut oil). I could see from the leaflet that it is unrefined coconut oil, which is British pharmacopeia-grade, meaning that it has been tested and confirmed to have bioactive components valued for their health benefits. These ingredients are glycerides and fatty acids which soothe, repair and delay the development of wrinkles, which is always a bonus in my eyes.

The product not only won an Award for the Editor’s Choice 2019 at Beauty Shortlist and Mama & Baby Awards, but also Eco Brand of the Year at The Beauty Shortlist Awards 2021 and Best Zero Waste Brand and Plastic-Free Brand at the Beauty Shortlist Awards 2020.
The coconut melt is marketed as an ‘everything’ balm, as it’s multi-purpose and is suitable for use for babies right up to the elderly, suitable for all skin-types (although there is an advisory not to use as a facial moisturiser for acne-prone skin) and suitable for all genders. Looking at the following benefits and uses listed, it really lives up to it’s name! It’s no wonder that it’s an Award-Winner:
• Treating dry areas such as cuticles
• Nourishing the skin, including dry skin patches
• Soothing nappy rash in babies and helping cradle cap
• Removing makeup
• Conditioning hair
• Minimising the appearance of fine lines or scars
• Repairing and soothing cracked lips
Dr Jackson’s supports 1% for the Planet, which is a global network of businesses, individuals and environmental organisations tackling our Planet’s most pressing environmental issues. Businesses give 1% of their sales back to the environment. Which is a great initiative and demonstrates the business is environmentally and socially responsible, which is such an important matter these days and a really strong selling point.
The travel size Coconut Melt 04 (15ml) retails for £20 as a one time purchase or £18 on a subscribe & save offer. The full size Coconut Melt 04 (200ml) retails for £55 as a one time purchase or £49.50 on subscribe & save. Dr Jackson’s website offers 15% off your first purchase, with free delivery over £45. Although the product is very good, I personally feel that these are relatively high price points and would make it very much a luxury product, rather than an everyday item. However, it would make a really lovely present for a special person in your life, if you’re looking for an alternative gift, that they might not necessarily buy themselves. I would love someone to buy it for me!
